Job summary

Skykomish School District seeks a PreK-12 School Principal to partner with the Superintendent in establishing a shared vision for learning aligned to the district’s strategic plan. The role advances school culture, instructional programs, and staff professional growth to support student success.

The principal will collaborate with the Superintendent, faculty, and community to respond to diverse needs, ensure safety, and drive continuous improvement across levels.

Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in education or related field.
  • Current Washington State Principal Certificate.
  • Minimum of three years certificated classroom teaching experience.
  • Minimum of one to two years of successful principal experience leading a school with documented outcomes.
  • Experience with teacher and staff supervision, coaching, and evaluation.

PreK-12 SCHOOL PRINCIPAL
SUMMARY

Partners with the Superintendent in establishing a vision/mission for learning at all levels that aligns with the Skykomish School District’s strategic plan and is widely supported by all constituents. Aides in the development of a school culture and instructional program that supports both student learning and staff professional growth. Effectively optimizes school organization, operation, and resources for a safe and effective learning environment. Collaborates effectively with the Superintendent and faculty to engage with community members, to respond to diverse community and student interests and needs. Understands, responds to, and influences social, cultural, and legislative contexts.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
  • Collaboratively develops and implements a shared vision and mission.
    • Develops partnerships and resources within and outside of the building to support the school and district’s vision and mission.
    • Strong collaborator with district leadership, contributing actionable insights, ideas, and work for the betterment of student outcomes.
  • Helps to develop and maintain high performing teams.
    • Effective monitoring, supervision, evaluation, and leadership for the building’s programs, to
      elevate the quality and performance of instructional staff for all students to thrive.
    • Aides in successfully leading continuous improvement processes; helps determine specific courses of action that result in school wide improvement of student learning.
    • Communicates and drives high standards of district performance.
  • Partners to establish norms of acceptable behavior for staff and students.
    • Acts with integrity and fairness.

  • Effectively supervises school events, including student performances and activities, high school graduation, and other school related events.
    • Aides in effectively managing the building/ASB budget.
    • Collaborates in effective risk management practices via design and supervision of school events, to include a program for creating field trips aligned to the instructional program.
  • Carries out federal, state, local, and district regulations, policies, and practices.
    • Seeks funding opportunities for programs via grants and community resources.
    • Knowledge of laws and experience related to special areas and related programs including ASB, IDEA, grants, and others.

REQUIREMENTS: EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
  • Current Washington State Principal Certificate
  • Master’s degree in education or related field
  • Minimum of three years certificated classroom teaching experience
  • Minimum of one to two years of successful principal experience leading an elementary, middle, or high school with demonstrated ability to drive continuous improvement in student performance, managing high performing teams, and curricular reviews and changes with documented outcomes
  • Demonstrated effective practice and knowledge of rules and regulations related to teacher and staff supervision, coaching, and evaluation
  • Experienced change agent with demonstrated ability to drive cultural transformation and performance management to drive accountability of staff under management
CLEARANCES

Criminal justice fingerprint and background check with Washington State’s Office of Superintendent of Public Instruction and FBI. Skykomish School District will also conduct a minimum of three reference checks

WORKING ENVIRONMENT

The usual and customary methods of performing the job’s functions requires the following physical demands: some lifting, reaching, carrying, pushing and/or pulling; some walking; frequent bending and keyboarding. Generally, the job requires 40% sitting, 30% walking and 30% standing. The job is performed with most of the time spent indoors; a portion of the day will be time spent outdoors and is subject to a variety of changing weather conditions and potentially uneven/slippery surfaces.
