Summary

The Physical Education Specialist is an on-site role located in Skykomish, WA. This K-12 position is responsible for planning, delivering, and assessing age-appropriate physical education instruction that promotes fitness, motor skills development, teamwork, and lifelong wellness and nutrition habits. Day-to-day responsibilities include designing and implementing lesson plans aligned with district and state standards, leadingstructuredphysicalactivitiesandsports,teachingsafeexercisetechniques,andadaptingactivitiesto meet diverse student needs and abilities. The Specialist will monitor student progress, maintain accurate records, collaborate with other educators and support staff, and communicate regularly with families about student growth. Additional duties may include supervising extracurricular activities, support school-wide health and wellness initiatives, and contributing to a positive and inclusive school culture.

  • Relevant qualifications may include a bachelor’s degree in physical education, kinesiology, education,orarelatedfield,andappropriatestateteachingcertificationoreligibilityforcertification.
  • AdditionalbeneficialqualificationsincludeexperienceworkinginK–12schoolsettings,knowledgeof trauma-informed and culturally responsive practices, CPR/First Aid certification, and the ability to safely supervise indoor and outdoor physical activities.

Requirements:EducationandExperience(positionrequirementsatentry)

  • PossessorqualifyforimmediateissuanceofavalidWashingtonStateK-8teachingcertificatewith an endorsement in Physical Education.
  • MaintainavalidCPR/FirstAidcertificationandhavethephysicalabilitytoperformCPR/FirstAidif necessary.
CLEARANCES

CriminaljusticefingerprintandbackgroundcheckwithWashingtonState’sOfficeofSuperintendentofPublic Instruction and FBI. Skykomish School District will also conduct a minimum of three reference checks.

WORKINGENVIRONMENT

Theusualandcustomarymethodsofperformingthejob’sfunctionsrequiresthefollowingphysicaldemands: stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, standing, walking, pushing/pulling, lifting, finger dexterity, grasping, talking, hearing, seeing, and repetitive motions including keyboarding. Generally, the job requires 40%sitting,30%walkingand30%standing.Thejobisperformedwithtimespentindoorsandoutdoorsasguided by lesson plans and conditions permitting; portions of the day will be time spent outdoors and are subject toa variety of changing weather conditions and potentially uneven/slippery surfaces.

Mediumwork:Exertingupto50poundsofforceoccasionally,and/orupto30poundsofforcefrequently, and/or up to 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects.

AnnualsalaryproratedbasedonassignmentFTE(basedonthenegotiatedcollectivebargainingagreement salary schedule, 2025-2026 Salary Schedule $70,990 to $137,900). Certificated staff work the school year contract with placement on the District and SEA bargaining agreement salary schedule. Placement on the schedule is determined by training and experience.
