Jobot is seeking an experienced Preconstruction Manager to lead early-phase planning and estimating for water and wastewater projects in Ames, IA. You will develop conceptual budgets, analyze drawings, and coordinate with owners, architects, engineers, and subcontractors to ensure accurate GMP pricing and smooth project start.

This role requires a BS in Construction Management or related field and 5+ years in preconstruction or estimating within commercial construction.

  • 5+ years of experience in preconstruction, estimating, or project management within commercial construction.
  • Proficiency with estimating and construction management software.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the preconstruction process from conceptual budgeting through project turnover.
  • Prepare detailed conceptual and hard-bid estimates for commercial construction projects.
  • Analyze drawings, specifications, proposals, and other documentation to prepare accurate cost estimates.
  • Coordinate with owners, architects, engineers, and subcontractors throughout the preconstruction phase.
  • Develop and manage project budgets, value engineering options, and cost-saving strategies.
  • Solicit and evaluate subcontractor and supplier pricing.
  • Prepare quantity takeoffs and scope analyses.
  • Assist in scheduling, logistics planning, and constructability reviews.
  • Support business development efforts and participate in client presentations as needed.
  • Maintain strong relationships with subcontractors, vendors, and clients.
  • Collaborate closely with operations teams to ensure a smooth transition from preconstruction to construction.

Preferred Experience:

  • Experience working on commercial, industrial, healthcare, education, or mixed‑use projects
  • Familiarity with Design‑Build, CMAR, and negotiated project delivery methods
  • Existing subcontractor relationships and market knowledge preferred
