Job description

I’m looking to connect with experienced Preconstruction Managers interested in current and upcoming opportunities across the Texas renewable energy and power infrastructure market.

These positions sit at the front end of major EPC projects, taking ownership from initial opportunity and RFP through estimating, engineering, procurement, contract execution and eventual handover to construction.

This is not purely an estimating position. You will effectively act as the project lead before mobilization, bringing the technical, commercial and delivery functions together to ensure projects are properly scoped, priced, scheduled and de-risked.

What will you be taking ownership of?

You’ll turn early-stage opportunities into projects that are commercially and operationally ready to build.

That will involve:

• Establishing the proposed delivery model, construction approach and key project milestones
• Bringing together input from design, procurement, estimating, commercial and field delivery teams
• Testing project assumptions against actual site conditions, available resources and equipment lead times
• Reviewing drawings and specifications to identify gaps, conflicts or potential construction challenges
• Building a clear picture of project cost, cash flow, schedule exposure and commercial risk
• Engaging suppliers and subcontractors to validate pricing, availability and delivery capability
• Challenging designs and proposed methodologies to improve cost, safety, quality and buildability
• Defining package scopes and ensuring responsibilities are clearly allocated
• Supporting negotiations with clients, contractors and supply-chain partners
• Tracking changes as designs develop and communicating their impact on budget and program
• Preparing projects for internal approval and confidently presenting the delivery case to senior stakeholders
• Creating a thorough handover so the construction team inherits a well-planned project rather than unresolved preconstruction issues

What kind of background could suit this?

You may currently work in preconstruction, estimating, project management, project engineering, construction management or another front-end delivery position.

The strongest candidates are likely to offer:

• Experience supporting utility-scale renewable energy or electrical infrastructure projects
• Exposure to solar, battery storage, substations, transmission lines or grid interconnection facilities
• An understanding of how EPC projects move from opportunity through design development and into construction
• Enough technical knowledge to interpret drawings, specifications, equipment requirements and site information
• Commercial awareness covering budgets, subcontractor pricing, change management and contractual risk
• Experience coordinating several technical and commercial workstreams simultaneously
• The confidence to question incomplete information and resolve issues before they reach the field
• Strong relationships with project owners, utilities, engineering consultants, vendors or subcontractors
• An appreciation of regional labor conditions, procurement constraints and long-lead electrical equipment
• The communication skills to present recommendations clearly to both customers and internal leadership

Texas and ERCOT experience would be valuable but is not essential. Comparable experience gained elsewhere in the United States will also be considered.
