Job description

We take a comprehensive look at our customers' energy usage to identify savings and renewable solution opportunities. We manage the entire process from concept, procurement, and installation, and provide ongoing O&M support.

The Preconstruction Manager plays a critical role in shaping project success by providing accurate cost evaluations, fostering collaborative customer relationships, and delivering innovative solutions during the preconstruction phase. This position is responsible for key preconstruction deliverables including scheduling, permitting, budgeting, and contract execution.

What you'll do:
  • Lead preconstruction activities from project concept through construction, including development, design coordination, and cost estimation.
  • Conduct site surveys to assess and document site conditions, dimensions, electrical systems, structural requirements, PV array location, and utility interconnection options.
  • Gather and coordinate key technical project data, including electrical load data and structural and electrical documentation.
  • Coordinate with internal design teams and third-party engineers to develop complete designs that meet project scope, code, and manufacturer requirements.
  • Prepare project budgets and cost estimates at various stages of development, including conceptual and detailed estimates, by coordinating with equipment vendors, subcontractors, and consultants.
  • Develop bid packages, scopes of work, solicit and review bids, and support subcontractor buyout.
  • Develop preliminary project schedules and identify project risks, including mitigation strategies.
  • Lead constructability reviews with the project team.
  • Coordinate preliminary PV system layouts, energy modeling, and energy production estimates with the design team.
  • Support sales and business development efforts during the preconstruction phase, including participation in RFP/RFQ responses and customer meetings.
  • Support preparation and submission of utility interconnection applications and project permits, as required.
  • Lead technical project development and preparation of drawings and technical information for proposals, contracts, and customer presentations.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with clients, vendors, subcontractors, and project partners.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Required skills, knowledge, and abilities:
  • Bachelor's degree in construction management, renewable energy, engineering, project management, or equivalent technical degree or experience.
  • 5+ years of experience in a generally related construction development process including general contracting, project development, design and engineering, and construction of energy generation projects.
  • Knowledge of general construction, solar PV systems, battery storage, design/build methods, and project lifecycle.
  • Excellent organizational and communication skills; follow up, follow through, and over-communicate when needed.
  • Tech‑savvy; proficient in Microsoft Office, project management software, and solar monitoring platforms.
  • Self-starter with a team mindset, ready to contribute to a hands‑on, entrepreneurial culture.
Physical Demands:
  • Work is performed in a combination of an office environment which, requires the ability to operate standard office equipment and keyboards; and on job sites, which requires the ability to work in a variety of circumstances, including but not limited to standing, walking, bending, kneeling, crouching, crawling, climbing ladders, scaffolds, and high‑lift equipment; working in ducts, crawl spaces, roofs, basements, above ceilings, and in outside/inside/heat/cold/day/night conditions.
  • Specific vision abilities required include close vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
  • May be required to satisfy requirements imposed by specific projects, customers, or company.
  • Must be able to carry and move equipment and tools weighing up to 40 pounds unassisted.
