Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in construction management, engineering, or related field preferred.
• Strong understanding of construction estimating processes and bid preparation.
• Experience coordinating with preconstruction teams, architects, and owners.

Responsibilities

• Determine project scope with preconstruction team.
• Read plans and drawings to define work scope.
• Own overall cost estimates and bid preparation.
• Collaborate to develop presentations and proposals.
• Review design options and advise based on cost and materials.
• Develop project schedules with associated equipment, supervision, and labor costs.
• Adjust estimates during bid day or as needed.
• Lead design-build team in scope and price refinement for design-build projects.
• Develop conceptual estimates from incomplete information.
• Lead meetings with Owners/Architects and share timely information.
• Build relationships with subcontractors and suppliers.
• Represent company in industry estimating organizations when requested.

Job description

Primary Function: Responsible for understanding and determining the entire scope of costs for construction projects. Responsible for the management of Estimator(s) and/or preconstruction team members.

Responsibilities

1. Determines and collaborates with the preconstruction team to determine scope of project(s).
2. Thorough knowledge of reading plan specifications and drawings to determine overall scope of work.
3. Overall responsibility for construction cost estimates and/or bid.
4. Proactively collaborates with other team members in the development and execution of presentation and proposals.
5. Reviews design options and recommends the best solution based on cost, engineering quality, or availability of materials.
6. Collaborates with other team members to develop the project schedule and the company’s corresponding cost for equipment, supervision, and labor costs.
7. Flexibility to adjust estimates on bid day and or as necessary throughout the estimating process.
8. Managing many variables simultaneously to stay on track for successful proposal(s).
9. For design-build projects, lead the design-build team in the refinement of project scope and price.
10. Ability to develop conceptual estimates for projects from incomplete information.
11. Comfortable working under the pressure of a deadline and managing many variables simultaneously.
12. Leads team in bid opportunities.
13. Ability to lead meetings with Owners/Architects and deliver accurate and timely information.
14. Develops and nurtures Subcontractor/Supplier Interaction/Relationships.
15. Networking through local/state/national estimating organizations (when requested).
16. Complies with M. B. Kahn’s Safety Program, OSHA guidelines, and Company policies, procedures, and standards.
17. Promotes integrity, honesty, hard work, safety, and quality throughout all aspects of the project and is a professional representative of M. B. Kahn.
18. Performs additional assignments as directed by management or as required for successful project completion.

Required Skills/Abilities

• Proficient in all aspects of Estimator.
• Thorough understanding and proficient use of Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Project and On-Screen Take-Off Program(s).
• Naturally analytical and able to visualize two dimensional drawings in three dimensions.
• A natural mathematician, instinctively comfortable with numbers.
• Demonstrates excellent organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills both written and verbal.
• Skilled at managing multiple and competing priorities in a fast-paced environment.
