Job description

The Preconstruction Engineerwill assist in the bidding of construction projects by preparing conceptual and hard dollar estimates, proposals for new projects, and soliciting of subcontractor bids. The Preconstruction Engineer will review and verify accuracy and completeness of all project documents received and will also perform quantity take-offs, constructability reviews, and value engineering analyses for all projects assigned. The Preconstruction Engineer will play a key role in departmental initiatives and improvements.

The Specifics of the Role

• Work in conjunction with Preconstruction team to prepare accurate proposals for all business units including (Commercial, Industrial, Institutional, Residential)
• Perform quantity take-offs for specific divisions/scopes of work
• Manage subcontractor solicitation process
• Build and maintain subcontractor relationships
• Prepare Bid Evaluation sheets
• Review project schedules and assist in preparing General Conditions
• Assist with final assembly of estimate for presentation to owner
• Assure clean handoff of estimate, bid info, drawings, specs, etc. to Project Management
• Assist Project Managers in negotiating contracts, change orders, etc.
• Maintain and develop historical data for unit prices

Required

• Bachelor’s Degree in Construction Management, Engineering, Architecture or related
• 1-5 years of estimating experience in commercial construction
• Demonstrated knowledge of building construction, materials, systems, market conditions, and trade practices
• Knowledge of estimating and quantity takeoff software
• Conceptual ability to work with minimum information
• Proven technical ability to perform mathematical calculations
• Experience attending Preconstruction meetings
• Capability to pass pre-employment drug testing and background check
