Job description

Overview:

Vanderlande’s Site Management Department manages the installation and project execution of Material Handling Systems, Warehouse Automation and Parcel Sortation systems for our customers throughout North America. The increasing number of new projects and their geographical spread means the team is growing and expanding. You will report hierarchically to the Electrical Department Manager, and daily to the Electrical Site Manager and/or Construction Manager. In this position, you will be working within a Site Management project team to manage the installation of material handling automation and sortation systems. You will directly oversee and report on the progress of one (or more) electrical subcontractor(s) working on large and complex projects, ensuring the electrical installation is performed safely while maintaining compliance with quality standards, project specifications, and technical requirements.

Position Summary:

This position is responsible for overseeing and independently verifying I/O checks and precommissioning tasks performed by electrical subcontractors on a project site. This includes reporting of precommissioning progress, maintaining a record of precommissioning checks performed and outstanding, and working with our commissioning team to resolve issues pertaining to electrical project scope during the commissioning process. You will confirm that electrical subcontractors adhere to detailed engineering drawings and resolve or escalate any discrepancies in the customer standards, provided drawings, or other documentation. The Precommissioning Supervisor is responsible for supervising the daily progress of our electrical subcontractors across all the confirmation testing involved in the installation of our automated material handling systems on projects. You are expected to be initiative-taking in reporting requirements, resolving and/or informing the Electrical Site Manager of any logistical, technical, or schedule issues, ensuring effective communication with all required parties regarding progress, out of scope work, non-conformities, and all other site-related issues. This role requires up to 100% travel, and it is expected to work 50 to 60 hours per week with overtime after 40 hours worked. This position includes a cost-covered home leave benefit at 8-week intervals, phone, computer, as well as training opportunities relevant to the position.

Essential Functions (Job Duties and Responsibilities):

  • Responsible for directly supervising the safe installations, alterations, additions, and/or repairs of electrical systems, associated materials, and equipment within the project.
  • Responsible for the daily oversight of electrical subcontractor’s precommissioning personnel, including areas worked, headcount by activity, daily progress tracking and reporting.
  • Directly responsible for providing information requested by subcontractors regarding scope and design.
  • Engages with 3rd party vendors to ensure adherence to precommissioning requirements.
  • Coordinate with Site Management to ensure that all precommissioning milestones are tracked, and revisions are communicated in a timely manner to meet scope, budget, and project construction schedules.
  • Oversee and verify that all cabling and devices are functional and installed in an acceptable manner to meet Vanderlande and customer requirements.
  • Ensure that all cabling and devices are tested for functionality, installed per detailed engineering drawings, and that any discrepancy from design is communicated to the Electrical site manager, electrical subcontractor(s), and the project engineering team.
  • Validate and maintain all required turnover documentation from the electrical subcontractor(s). To include but not limited to cable certification testing, IP address checks, device level checks, motor rotation checks, and labeling checks.

Position Description:

  • Ensure subcontractors execute safe installations, alterations, additions, and/or repairs of electrical systems, associated materials, and equipment within the material handling industry.
  • Ensure that all wires and cables are installed, labeled, and connected as detailed in engineering drawings and schematics.
  • Ensure I/O checkout of completed systems matches the engineering drawings.
  • Ensure all industrial networking is installed and certified as required within the engineering detailed drawings.
  • Work with Electrical Site Managers and Supervisors to find innovations and improvements to efficiency in project schedules.
  • Accountable for the on-site supervision of assigned electrical subcontractors in a manner that ensures the completion of project activities within established schedule and quality standards. Must have the ability to evaluate progress against set goals.
  • Assist the Electrical Site Manager in reviewing project documents, plans, and specifications, directing installation activities, resolving construction difficulties, coordinating field installations, project close-outs, and developing and/or maintaining customer/client relationships.
  • Complete all assigned tasks within the required time constraints and quality standards.
  • Assist with routine equipment trial runs to ensure that it meets specifications and ensure equipment is installed to Vanderlande and/or client standards.
  • Provide additional assistance with training of electrical subcontractors concerning the precommissioning of Vanderlande and 3rd party equipment.

Required Qualifications and Experience:

  • Ability to travel on short notice and spend up to 100% of the time traveling.
  • Must be willing to work on call, weekends, holidays, and off-shifts as required.
  • Ability to read, understand, redline, and challenge electrical layout drawings, standards, and schematic.
  • Ability to troubleshoot complex control and motor wiring circuit problems.
  • Exhibits leadership by example.
  • 3-5 years material handling or automation industry experience.
  • Monitor and manage quality, time, costs, and provision of information.

Required Education:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • OSHA 30 certification.

Preferred Qualification, Education, and Experience:

  • Working experience with material handling equipment.
  • Experience with AGVS, AS/RS, or conveyors.
  • Journeyman electrical license.
  • Detailed knowledge and experience in a technical or specialty area.

Position Type:

This is a full-time position with an expectation to work an average of 50 to 60 hours per week. Must be willing to work up to 7 days a week with paid overtime after 40 hours.

Travel:

This position requires up to 100% travel.

  • Working in all weather conditions (including heat, rain, cold, and wind) while wearing proper PPE.
  • Frequent exposure to fumes or airborne particles, moving mechanical parts, vibration, and high noise levels.
  • Wearing personal protective equipment (PPE) including but not limited to hard hat, safety glasses/goggles, ear plugs, masks/respirators, hi-vis safety vests, leather gloves, and safety toed work boots with a minimum 6” ankle.

This is a full-time, non-exempt position, eligible to receive an hourly rate and to participate in an annual performance bonus program. The salary range listed represents the maximum and minimum starting base pay for this position as of the time of posting. Final salary offered will be determined based on factors including but not limited to the candidate's skills and experience. The annual performance bonus program is preset and not candidate-dependent.

Hourly rate: $38.25-$42.50
