Job summary

Qualdoc is seeking an experienced Structural Steel Layout & Fit-Up Fitter in Richmond, VA. The role requires strong layout and measuring skills, the ability to read shop drawings, and experience positioning and aligning structural steel before welding.

You will review drawings, perform layout, position steel components, and assist with final assembly and welding prep. This is a full-time position with 1st and 2nd shifts, offering competitive pay and a step-up for 2nd shift differential.

Qualifications

• Must read blueprints, shop drawings and technical details.
• Experience with layout, fit-up, alignment and assembly of structural steel.
• Knowledge of track torch operation and fabrication equipment helpful.

Responsibilities

• Review shop drawings and determine assembly placement.
• Layout and mark steel components to required dimensions.
• Position and secure steel pieces for fabrication.
• Complete fit-up and alignment prior to welding.
• Prepare parts for welding and final assembly.
• Set up fabrication equipment including track torch.
• Monitor dimensions and placement during fabrication.
• Inspect fit-ups for accuracy and workmanship.
• Identify and correct dimensional/alignment problems.
• Coordinate with supervisors to maintain production schedules.
• Keep tools and work areas organized.
• Adhere to safety rules and shop procedures.
