Job summary

SkillSource Tech is assisting a large precision machine shop in Springfield, MA to hire a Quality Engineer. You will oversee quality from incoming inspection to final part approval and drive continuous improvement in a high-volume, multi-process environment.

The role requires hands-on measurement experience with CMMs and a strong knowledge of GD&T, AS9100/ISO 9001, and CAPA methodologies. You will collaborate across engineering, production, and supplier quality to prevent defects and streamline

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Quality, or related technical field (or equivalent hands-on experience).
• 5+ years of quality engineering experience in machine shop or precision manufacturing.
• Strong knowledge of GD&T, blueprint reading, and quality standards (AS9100, ISO 9001).
• Hands-on experience with CMM programming/operation and other precision measurement tools.
• Experience with root cause analysis methodologies.
• ASQ certification (CQE, CQT, or similar) a plus.
• Proficiency with SPC software and/or Minitab a plus.
• Strong communication skills and cross-functional collaboration.

Responsibilities

• Develop and maintain quality plans, inspection procedures, and PPAP/FAI documents
• Perform root-cause analysis and lead CAPA investigations
• Review drawings and GD&T to set inspection criteria and acceptance standards
• Operate and oversee precision measurement equipment (CMM, micrometers, calipers, etc.)
• Lead or support SPC programs and analyze process capability data
• Conduct internal audits and support external audits (AS9100/ISO 9001)
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to resolve quality issues and reduce scrap
• Train shop floor personnel on quality standards and inspection techniques
• Maintain calibration programs for gauges and equipment
• Participate in APQP to embed quality requirements from the start
