Job summary

Matter Intelligence in El Segundo, CA is seeking a Mechanical Drafter to turn conceptual mechanical designs into precise, release-ready drawings for airborne optomechanical and optoelectrical payload hardware. You will collaborate with engineering, manufacturing, and suppliers to ensure documentation is accurate, manufacturable, and cost-effective.

You will produce 3D CAD models, drawings, and BOMs for optical assemblies, perform tolerance analyses, support prototypes, and maintain drawing

Qualifications

• Proven ability to produce detailed mechanical drawings for precision assemblies.
• Experience with NX or equivalent CAD tool; knowledge of GD&T (ASME Y14.5-2018).
• Experience drafting optical-system components (lenses, lasers, sensors, imaging assemblies).
• Ability to clearly communicate drawing requirements and updates to engineering, manufacturing, and suppliers.

Responsibilities

• Detail conceptual designs and generate precise 3D CAD models, assembly drawings, part drawings, and BOMs for optical and optoelectrical assemblies.
• Perform tolerance analyses and select materials to meet precision requirements.
• Translate optical requirements into robust mechanical designs; collaborate to optimize for manufacturability and cost.
• Support prototype builds, fit checks, integration, and hardware troubleshooting.
• Maintain configuration discipline, drawing release quality, and revision control; incorporate lessons from fabrication, assembly, and test into drawing updates.
