Job summary

GENERAL TOOL COMPANY in Cincinnati seeks a qualified quality inspector with metrology expertise to ensure first-article inspections meet exacting standards. You will interpret drawings, perform measurements with CMMs and gauges, and document results to support manufacturing quality.

Responsibilities include identifying nonconformances, recommending corrective actions, and laying out reference points on surface plates.

Qualifications

• Demonstrated problem-solving ability and sound judgment in determining effective courses of action.
• Vision requirements: Jaeger 1 at 12” with corrective lenses; Ishihara color test annually.
• Two years of quality inspection experience preferred.
• Training in SPC data collection and evaluation preferred.
• Manufacturing experience with measurement gauges; aerospace/defense exposure preferred.

• Calculate angles, radii, and other derived dimensions using formulas and shop math.
• Measure length, height, distances, and angles using precision tools: CMMs, micrometers, calipers, gauge blocks, and related devices.
• Perform first-run and first-article inspections on fabrications and assemblies.
• Lay out reference points and centerlines on surface plates for castings, forgings, and finished parts.
• Document inspection and test results in clear, actionable reports.
• Analyze nonconformances, identify probable causes, and recommend corrective actions.

What you’ll accomplish

• Interpret engineering drawings and specifications to identify materials, finishes, tolerances, and dimensional requirements.
• Calculate angles, radii, and other derived dimensions using formulas and shop math.
• Measure length, height, distances, and angles using precision tools: CMMs, micrometers, V-blocks, sine bars, calipers, dial indicators, angle plates, snap gauges, gauge blocks, height gage, level protractors, optical comparators, bore gages, ultrasonic equipment, and a profilometer.
• Perform first-run and first-article inspections on fabrications and assemblies.
• Lay out reference points and centerlines on surface plates for castings, forgings, and finished parts.
• Document inspection and test results in clear, actionable reports.
• Analyze nonconformances, identify probable causes, and recommend corrective actions.

What you bring

• High school diploma or GED.
• Approximately two years of quality inspection experience preferred.
• Training in Statistical Process Control (SPC) data collection and evaluation preferred.
• Manufacturing experience using a broad range of measurement gauges; aerospace or defense contract exposure preferred.
• Demonstrated problem-solving ability and sound judgment in determining effective courses of action.
• Vision requirements: Jaeger 1 at 12” (with corrective lenses) and the Ishihara Color Blindness Test. Exams are required annually.
