Job summary

ProCOMP Inc. is hiring a Mechanical Polisher to operate buffing, grinding, and polishing equipment for metal parts to exact surface quality.

You will select abrasives, read work orders, inspect finishes, and adjust settings to prevent damage while maintaining a clean, safe work area. This role requires attention to detail and adherence to quality procedures in a manufacturing environment.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• 1+ years of experience in metal finishing, polishing, buffing, or a related manufacturing role.
• Ability to read basic blueprints, work orders, or finish specifications.
• Strong hand-eye coordination and attention to detail for consistent, high-quality finishes.
• Basic math skills for measuring and interpreting tolerances.
• Experience working with stainless steel, aluminum, and brass.

Responsibilities

• Set up and operate polishing, buffing, and grinding machines to finish surfaces with required texture and shine.
• Select appropriate abrasives, compounds, wheels, and belts based on material type and finish specs.
• Inspect parts before and after polishing to identify defects such as scratches, pitting, or uneven finish.
• Read work orders, blueprints, or finish specifications to determine polishing requirements.
• Adjust machine speed, pressure, and technique to avoid overheating, warping, or damaging parts.
• Perform manual touch-up polishing on detail areas or contours that automated equipment cannot reach.
• Measure and verify finished parts against quality standards using gauges or visual inspection.
• Maintain, clean, and perform routine maintenance on polishing equipment, wheels, and belts.
• Track production quantities and complete quality and production documentation.
• Follow all safety procedures, including PPE use and machine guarding.
• Identify and report equipment malfunctions or quality issues to the Production Supervisor.
• Maintain a clean and organized work area in accordance with 5S or similar standards.
