The Precision Measurement Service Technician role

The Precision Measurement Service Technician role is critical in how value is delivered to our Industrial customers who rely upon precision measurement as a critical quality control point in their businesses and operations. Our customers trust this position to perform preventative maintenance services, calibrations, service and repairs, and installations to ensure they can always rely upon and trust their measurements. This position provides critical value to our customers and enables them to support their safety, compliance, and quality commitments.

Essential Job Functions

• Able to recognize safety hazards related to specific jobs and tasks and to proactively plan to remove or successfully mitigate risks in support of CIS Safety Commitments
• Answer the bell – always be on-time, ready to serve, and always demonstrate the highest level of professionalism; Proactively plan for every service order and request.
• Provide instrument and equipment calibration and related service activities to support customer compliance and quality management program requirements. The work scope for this role will span many technical metrology disciplines, including, but not limited to: Temperature, Pressure, Flow, Vibration, Mass, Electrical, Time, Torque, Force and Dimensional measurement systems.
• CIS provides ongoing training post-hire to support ongoing business needs.
• Ensure complete, proactive preparation for all customer service opportunities, including, but not limited to the review all customer asset lists, details and equipment specifications, review of all needed procedures, advanced preparation of all digital and/or physical certifications, and the selection of proper standards to support all jobs.
• Support all workflow and Service Order (SO) data management requirements for CIS. This includes the use of all company provided tools, applications, and resources to manage the entire lifecycle of a SO and includes calibration details, asset information, timekeeping, service notes, customer signatures, and all other related details. All original data worksheets are required to be included on every SO.
• Ensure that all data is complete and correct at all times.
• Ensure that all CIS & Customer Quality Management System (QMS) requirements are supported at all times.
• Take time to understand the specific needs and preferences of every customer and work to identify ways to make service exceptional with every opportunity. Develop and maintain strong collaborative relationships with customers and CIS teams to create long-lasting customer relationships and to proactively add value to our customers.
• Identify opportunities where CIS can provide additional value to customers through its range of Operating Companies.
• CIS pays sales commissions on all qualified service & equipment leads that close.
• Proactively discuss risks with customers and how they may provide opportunities to upgrade existing equipment or to improve service agreements for better results.
• Ensure clear communication at all times; reduce surprises, and ensure customers understand service action plans, especially if work is required to span multiple trips.
• Consistently demonstrate a logical and methodical approach to equipment troubleshooting and diagnostics; ensure awareness of system interactions that may influence performance.
• Ensure all customer service level agreements are achieved to support expectations.
• Ability to work overtime and on a rotating on-call schedule including nights and weekends based on customer demand is required.
• Maintain all inventory and tools in accordance with company policies and procedures.

• 100% accuracy of all information, all measurements, all documentation, all the time.
• All calibration certificates shall be completed within the required time period (typically within 48 hours of job completion, based on customer agreements).
• Ensure high organization and of all service work tools, company assets, and property, and that all equipment is always verified to be in proper working order and calibrated.
• Demonstrate trust and “absolute accountability” at all times.
• Professional appearance and communication are required at all times.
• Ensure vehicle service & maintenance requirements are supported at all times.
• Always be aware of the impact of your decisions as seen through the eyes of the customer and as seen through CIS.
• Always consider the value created by CIS and how that is perceived by the customer.

Qualifications

• High School diploma required; Associates or higher degree in electronics, industrial maintenance, or related field work or experience is preferred.
• Experience in the weighing or metrology industry is also preferred.
• Military training certifications and experience are highly desirable (examples include: Navy GCAMS/ACTS, Air Force PMEL, or Army MOS – 94H)
• Must pass drug and background checks to support all CIS & customer requirements.
• Fully capable of reading, writing, speaking, and understanding the English language.
• Must possess a strong working knowledge and understanding of a wide variety of precision measurement equipment, their functions, and details essential to successful operation. This will include the ability to work with and maintain precision instrumentation, various gages, and other precision measurement equipment.
• A strong understanding of measurement principles is essential.
• Experience with gage and measurement management software systems is a strong plus.
• Strong customer service skills are essential: must be comfortable presenting and interacting with customers, in a variety of situations, including high-pressure situations.
• Fully capable of calculating capacity, division size, and understanding tolerances to perform required customer calibrations; the ability to convert measurements is required.
• Able to read digital and analog indicated meters and weighing devices.
• Must have good mechanical aptitude and knowledge of electrical theory.
• Capable and comfortable working in new locations, with new people, every day
• Experience troubleshooting and diagnosing electrical, mechanical, and electromechanical devices is essential.
• Experienced and comfortable working with primary modes of digital communication, data management, and documentation tools (MS Office, ERP & CRM systems, web-based or connected equipment diagnostics applications and tools)
• Self-starter capable of working independently with little or no direct supervision; equally capable and effective working in teams and groups.
• Communicate clearly in writing and verbally with CIS customers and associates.
• Candidates must be currently authorized to work in the United States and must not require employment-based visa sponsorship now or in the future.

Physical Requirements

• Ability to travel across Carlton’s growing footprint up to 50% of the time; travel may be higher or lower based on business needs.
• Ability to move about manufacturing and customer facilities on a regular and frequent basis, walking and ascending/descending stairs, and stand for extended work periods as tasks and site conditions require.
• Ability to lift and carry equipment and test weights weighing up to 50 lb. frequently; push/pull loaded carts on a variety of surface types.
• Ability to lift from floor to waist, waist to shoulder, and overhead as tasks require and repetitively transfer equipment between vehicle, cart, and workspace.
• Ability to handle loads safely while climbing, bending, stooping, and reaching to access instruments at varied orientations/elevations; frequently stoop below knee level to reach low-mounted equipment; and perform precise, repetitive adjustments requiring high manual dexterity, control, and hand strength.
• Ability to work indoors and outdoors at customer sites, subject to typical industrial conditions (noise, moving equipment, temperature variation, dust/fumes).
• Ability to operate required hand and power tools, calibration standards, and job-related devices (laptops/tablets, printers/labelers, measurement applications).
• Ability to operate company vehicles for work assignments; maintain a valid driver’s license and insurable driving record; comply with company safety rules and applicable break/drive-time requirements.
• Ability to wear required PPE, including safety eyewear, gloves, safety footwear, and hearing protection; ability to wear tight-fitting respiratory protection when required, with medical clearance, fit testing, and training completed per policy and applicable regulations.
