Job summary

Quality Vision International Inc. in Rochester, NY is seeking an experienced Incoming Quality Control Inspector II. The role inspects incoming mechanical materials against drawings, uses CMM, vision systems, calipers, and gauges, and applies GD&T to ensure conformance.

Qualifications

• High school diploma required; associate/bachelor preferred in manufacturing or quality.
• 5+ years in manufacturing quality control or mechanical inspection.
• 2+ years machinist experience preferred; read complex mechanical drawings.
• Strong GD&T knowledge with tight tolerances and measurement tools.

Responsibilities

• Inspect incoming, externally purchased, and internally manufactured mechanical parts against drawings and specifications.
• Measure parts with CMM, vision systems, calipers, micrometers, height gauges, gauges.
• Apply GD&T to evaluate conformance and enforce standards.
• Disposition parts as pass/fail and maintain quality records.
• Mentor Level I inspectors; perform ad-hoc duties as assigned.

Compensation: $22.00-$28.00 based on experience

Position Overview

The Precision Measurement & Inspection Technician is responsible for the inspection of all receipts at QVI except optical and electronic components. This is a critical function as the first check point for supplier quality. Additionally, the department provides inspection services for the floor when there are questionable issues and oversees the gauges used by the company. The Incoming Quality Control Inspector 2 works with a high level of independence and contributes to inspections of incoming material that is mechanical in nature, received from both external and internal suppliers, formally rejected by assemblers, or returned from the field.

Role And Responsibilities

• Technical inspection: Inspect incoming, externally purchased, and internally manufactured mechanical materials against blueprints, engineering drawings, and specifications.
• Precision measurement: Measure parts to tight dimensional tolerances using advanced metrology tools (CMM, vision systems, calipers, micrometers, height gauges, optical comparators, and plug/thread gages).
• GD&T application: Apply Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing (GD&T) principles to evaluate part conformance.
• Standards enforcement: Implement quality control processes, sampling systems, and procedures to ensure all QVI incoming product standards are strictly met.
• Disposition:Formally accept or reject parts based on inspection results.
• Record keeping: Maintain comprehensive, accurate, and detailed quality records.
• Mentorship: Work independently while providing technical guidance and mentorship to Level I inspectors.
• Ad-hoc duties: Complete other related tasks and assignments as requested by management.

Requirements

Minimum Qualifications: (Experience, Education, Certifications, Knowledge, Skills, Abilities)

• High School Diploma required. Associate or bachelor's Degree in a manufacturing or quality related field preferred.
• 5+ years of manufacturing quality control or mechanical inspection experience.
• 2+ years of machinist experience preferred.
• Blueprint reading: Ability to interpret complex mechanical drawings
• Ability to read mechanical drawings, sometimes often of a complex nature.
• GD&T & Tolerances: Strong knowledge of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing, with experience managing tight tolerances down to +/-.005mm (+/- .0002")..
• Measurement tools: Proficiency with CMM, Vision systems (QVI/OGP preferred), calipers, micrometers, and plug/thread gages
• Manufacturing knowledge: Solid understanding of machining practices, sheet metal components, and dual measurement systems (Metric/English).
• Software: Experience with ERP systems (preferred) and basic proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Word

Physical And/or Environmental Requirements

• Ability to walk, stand, or sit for extended periods of time.
• Ability to independently and safely move materials utilizing a pallet jack, work cart, etc. Visual acuity and manual hand dexterity are needed to operate said tools.
• Ability to lift material up to 50 pounds as needed.
• Ability to manually handle and transfer material parts to and from inspection operations.
