Job summary

Automation Personnel Services in Columbus, MS is seeking a Manual Machinist to operate and set up machine tools in a full-service shop. You will interpret blueprints and specifications to determine operations and tolerances, using calipers, micrometers and milling machines to produce precise metal parts.

Requirements include a degree or 2–5 years of related experience, ability to read micrometers/calipers, willingness to work overtime, and passing pre-employment screenings.

Qualifications

• Degree in Precision Manufacturing and Machining Technology or 2-5 years of job-related experience preferred.
• Must be able to use micro meters and calibers/ mechanically inclined and very reliabl e.
• Willingness and ability to work any shift and overtime when required.
• Must pass pre–employment physical, safety training, background and drug and alcohol screen.
• Must have dependable transportation.

Responsibilities

• Interprets blueprints, sketches, and engineering specifications; determines sequence of operations, number of cuts required, and method of setup.
• Set up, adjust, and operate machine tools such as calipers, micrometers, and milling machines to make or rework metal parts, mechanisms, tools, or machines to exact tolerances and dimensions
• Using a variety of machinist hand tools and precision measuring instruments.
• Making standard shop computations relating to dimensions of work, tooling, feeds, and speeds; measures, marks, and scribes dimensions and reference points to lay out stock for machining.
• Monitor and verify quality in accordance with statistical process or other control procedures.
• Positions materials by using an overhead crane.
• May perform simple cleaning maintenance operations.
• Reports abnormal conditions of equipment to supervision.
• Observes all Safety rules and regulations and keeps the work area clean and orderly
