Job description

A day in the life at MagTech

As a full-time Precision Manual Lathe & Mill Machinist with 3 years of hands‑on experience, you’ll be the craftsperson others count on to turn print into part. You’ll set up conventional machines, choose the right cutters, listen for harmonics, and deliver accurate components—whether it’s a single repair piece or a short production run. No weekends. Two shift options. Professional shop environment.

How your day flows

  1. Review electronic or printed blueprints and job specifications and plan the sequence of cutting, machining, and finishing operations.
  2. Set up manual lathes, mills, grinders, and drill presses; mark and position workpieces for true, repeatable results.
  3. Select tooling and materials, determine feeds and speeds, and establish material removal strategies.
  4. Machine steel, aluminum, titanium, plastics, silicon, and similar materials to tight tolerances.
  5. Monitor operations—by feel, sound, vibration, and sight—and adjust to eliminate harmonic chatter and maintain surface finish.
  6. Lubricate and cool work appropriately; replace dull or damaged cutting tools as needed.
  7. Verify work throughout and at completion against blueprints and specifications; document start/stop times in the Job Tracking System (DATS).
  8. Meet quantity targets while upholding precision and quality standards; follow all safety procedures and immediately report any unsafe conditions.
