Job summary

Machinist — M of W at Grand Central Terminal is responsible for preventive maintenance and repairs on HVAC and pump systems, fabricating parts as needed. Use mills, drills and grinders to produce precise components from steel stock, while ensuring safety and quality in a high-traffic transit environment.

The role requires mechanical aptitude, math skills, and strong attention to safety, with progression through wage scales under IAM guidelines and a non-telework expectation.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required with vocational training in machining or mechanics.
• Experience working with sump pumps, AC motors and fan systems preferred.
• Ability to read blueprints and use precision measuring tools.

Responsibilities

• Perform preventive maintenance on HVAC systems and pumps.
• Operate milling machines, drill presses and grinders for fabrication.
• Measure dimensions with micrometers, Vernier calipers, and gauges.
• Set up and adjust tools, fixtures and machines for production.
• Inspect, lubricate, and test machined parts for conformance.
• Troubleshoot motor and bearing malfunctions and perform repairs.
