Job summary

Elyriametalspinning is seeking an operator to observe and operate machine to detect defects and ensure accurate production. You will read blueprints, set tooling, and adjust lathes and CNC equipment to meet specs.

The role requires basic math, blueprint interpretation, and strong attention to detail in a manufacturing environment with safety regulations.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED or equivalent; trade school preferred.
  • Experience with lathe operations and CNC controls.
  • Ability to read blueprints and interpret tooling instructions.
  • Proficient in basic Microsoft Office and record keeping.

Job description

SUMMARY: Observe and operate machine to detect work piece defects or machine malfunctions.


DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Reads blueprints or work instructions to determine product specifications and tooling instructions, and to plan operational sequences.
  • Uses equipment for production such as engine lathe and CNC lathe.
  • Inspects work pieces for defects, and measure work pieces to determine accuracy of machine operation, using rules, templates, or other measuring instruments.
  • Observes machine operations to detect any problems; make necessary adjustments to correct problems.
  • Maintains a clean and safe workplace.
  • Performs all other duties as assigned.

  • Education and/or Experience - High School Diploma (or GED or High School Equivalence Certificate) or Trade school preferred. Previous experience with lathe operations, CNC controls, tool grinding, and end mill operations.

Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers, regulatory agencies, or members of the business community. Ability to effectively present information to management, public groups, and/or board of directors. Ability to interact clearly and effectively, in both written and oral communication, with supervisor, clients, staff, vendors, etc.
  • Mathematical Skills — Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.
  • Computer Skills - To perform this job successfully, an individual should be proficient in personal computer skills including electronic mail, record keeping, routine database activity, word processing, spreadsheet, graphics, etc. This role requires an above-average knowledge of Microsoft Office.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

While performing the duties of this job, the individual is to remain in a stationary position for 60 percent of the time while operating the machine on the shop floor. They constantly operate motorized equipment and machines. The individual needs to occasionally move about on the shap floor to transport parts, access tools, equipment, parts, and other necessary items to complete the work order. The individual frequently positions self to operate and repair machines, including underneath and above the machine. They use the hands continuously while performing all job duties. Most of the activitiesinvolve fine and gross manipulation of items. They must be able to exchange accurate information with other individuals in the office and shop. Must be able to detect mechanical issues and part defects from short distances to determine what action needs to be taken. They must regularly lift, push, pull, and/or move up to 60 pounds. The individual must be capable of carrying and loading different parts and tools required to complete the job.


WORK ENVIRONMENT:

While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions; moving mechanical parts; fumes or airborne particles and toxic or caustic chemicals. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. The individual will be exposed to loud machinery or equipment. Due to the risk of electrical hazards while installing or servicing, additional personal protective equipment and procedures may need to be followed.


Individuals are required to wear personal protective equipment as situations dictate on various job and construction sites. Due to exposure of machinery and electrical currents, employees are required to wear personal protective equipment. During warmer months, the required personal protective equipment may cause the employee to be very warm while working. The individual will be exposed to loud machinery or equipment.
