Responsibilities

• Sets up and operates machines in a machine shop.
• Studies blueprints and specifications to determine dimensions and tolerances.
• Measures and marks dimensions on material for machining.
• Selects and secures workpieces on machines.
• Calculates and adjusts machining controls.
• Starts and observes machine operation to detect malfunctions or out-of-tolerance machining.
• Verifies finished parts against specifications.
• May install machined replacement parts and test operation.
• May operate welding equipment to cut and weld parts.
• May develop specifications from general description and draw sketches of parts or products.
• May confer with engineers and others to resolve machining or assembly problems.
