Job summary

WAI Global in Spartanburg, SC is seeking a Laser Cutting Machine Operator / Setup Technician responsible for setup, operation, and programming of laser cutting machines to produce precision components.

You will interpret drawings, adjust parameters, and develop programs using CAD/CAM software such as Fusion 360, AutoCAD, SolidWorks or Mastercam, while maintaining records and supporting continuous improvement.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required; technical diploma or associate degree preferred.
• Minimum 3 years' experience operating and programming laser cutting machines.
• Proficiency in CAD/CAM software.
• Strong understanding of mechanical drawings, tolerances, and materials.
• Excellent problem-solving and attention to detail.
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.

Responsibilities

• Set up and operate laser cutting machines (fiber and/or CO2) to produce high-precision components.
• Interpret and work from technical drawings, blueprints, and CAD files.
• Develop and optimize laser cutting programs using G codes and CAD/CAM software (Fusion 360, AutoCAD, SolidWorks, Mastercam).
• Adjust cutting parameters based on material type and thickness to minimize waste.
• Collaborate with engineering and production teams to meet safety and performance standards.
• Perform routine maintenance and ensure machines are operating safely and efficiently.
• Quality Assurance: inspect finished parts using precision measuring tools.
• Maintain records of machine settings, programs, and maintenance activities.
• Participate in continuous improvement initiatives and provide process feedback.
