Job summary

Shultz Steel Company is seeking a skilled worker to perform final surface inspection and conditioning of forged parts before shipment. The role includes operating a hand grinding machine, inspecting dimensions, and maintaining a safe, clean work area.

The position requires basic literacy, arithmetic skills, and the ability to follow written or oral instructions in a manufacturing setting. Must be capable of lifting up to 35 pounds and standing for extended periods.

Qualifications

• Basic reading ability of simple words and numbers.
• Ability to read and follow simple sentences and instructions.
• Ability to perform basic arithmetic with units of weight, volume and distance.
• Ability to apply common sense to follow written or oral instructions.
• Ability to handle a few concrete variables in standardized situations.

Responsibilities

• Performs final surface inspection and conditioning of forged parts prior to shipment to customer.
• Applies in process identification to products per instructions.
• Conditions surface of in process parts.
• Operates hand grinding machine and observes operation to detect part defects or machine malfunction; changes wheels and parts as trained.
• Measures part dimensions to determine accuracy of grinding operation.
• Removes burrs, sharp edges, rust, or scale from part.
• Maintains work area daily to be clean and free of safety hazards.
• Performs other routine duties.
