Job summary

The Timken Company is seeking a Precision Grinder on 1st or 2nd shift in Illinois. The role focuses on selecting grinding wheels and fixtures, setting up machines, and ensuring parts meet print specifications. You will document SPC data, load parts, and maintain machine fluids and gauges.

Qualified applicants have a high school diploma and mechanical/technical aptitude; strong communication with team and leadership is required. Company offers comprehensive benefits and a robust PTO policy.

Qualifications

  • Minimum High School Diploma or equivalent; post-secondary or trades / technical education and certifications preferred.
  • Mechanical aptitude and shop math competencies.
  • Strong ability to follow written and verbal work instructions.
  • Strong ability to communicate effectively with co-workers, suppliers, and plant leadership.

Responsibilities

  • Select and change wheel, shoes, drivers, diamonds & fixtures, loading plugs and balance wheel.
  • Set size, parallel, drop, cycle time, set gauges with proper master ball from Q.A., loading and unloading plugs, loading chute.
  • Run first piece, make necessary adjustments to attain quality characteristics per print specifications and complete necessary paperwork to attain a set-up approval.
  • Load parts in chute or place on fixture, cycle machine, check parts at designated intervals and adjust to maintain quality characteristics per print specifications.
  • Package and tag parts, complete all required paperwork including SPC charting.
  • Move parts to and from work area and scale as needed. Wash parts before running.
  • Maintain all machine fluid levels and sign out gauging equipment with print specs.

We are currently recruiting for a 1st and 2nd shift Precision Grinder.

Precision Grinder Responsibilities
  • Select and change wheel, shoes, drivers, diamonds & fixtures, loading plugs and balance wheel.
  • Set size, parallel, drop, cycle time, set gauges with proper master ball from Q.A., loading and unloading plugs, loading chute,
  • Run 1st piece part, make necessary adjustments to attain quality characteristics per print specifications and complete necessary paperwork to attain a set-up approval.
  • Load parts in chute or place on fixture, cycle machine, check parts at designated intervals and make necessary adjustments to maintain quality characteristics of part per print specifications throughout machining operations. Empty parts pan at dress cycle.
  • Package and tag parts, complete all required paperwork including SPC charting.
  • Move parts to and from work area and scale as needed. Wash parts before running.
  • Maintain all machine fluid levels
  • Sign out all necessary gauging equipment from Q.A. and set gauges per print specifications
  • Ring test abrasive wheels prior to mounting.
Precision Grinder General Qualifications & Experience
  • Minimum High School Diploma or equivalent; post-secondary or trades / technical education and certifications preferred

The hourly rate of pay for this position is $19.50 -$22.63 per hour and is commensurate on experience and education. This full-time position is eligible to participate in the paid time off plan, 401k, and comprehensive benefits package including medical, dental, and vision.
