Job Description

MISSION: To utilize assembly experience, artistic skill, and attention to detail in developing and applying techniques for fabricating complex and/or intricate parts, often working on prototypes, developmental projects, or fragile, complex, or costly parts.

PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES:

A. Assembly

Objective: To fabricate operational assemblies meeting customer designs, developing skills to produce complex parts efficiently.

Typical Activities:

  • Assess and apply verbal, written, and blueprint information from engineering.
  • Communicate with engineering and supervision to optimize fabrication strategies and improve quality.
  • Fabricate, assemble, or modify patterns and gating components using various tools, conforming to tolerances.
  • Modify gating systems on prototype and production molds with engineering collaboration.
  • Coordinate progress updates with work partners.
  • Document assembly activities with instructions, photos, measurements, and sketches; complete code sheets.
  • Inspect components and assemblies during and after assembly.
B. Interaction

Objective: Facilitate production of complex parts and introduce new parts into routine production.

Typical Activities:

  • Interact with supervision, engineering, mold operations, investment, and inspection teams.
  • Share techniques and approaches for complex parts, emphasizing skills that enhance quality.
  • Assist in training others, especially on new parts and complex prototype integration.
  • Collaborate with engineering, molding, and investment teams to identify issues and develop solutions pre-production.
C. Support and Coordination

Objective: Keep supervisors, planning, and engineering informed; assist with fixtures and frames for new or modified parts.

Typical Activities:

  • Update on progress and completion.
  • Assist in transitioning parts from development to production and from low to high volume.
  • Fabricate accurate gate models for molding dies.
  • Provide fixturing and framing suggestions; develop hand tool requirements.
  • Work with technicians on production tech cards.
  • Potentially train new assemblers and engineers in gating procedures.
D. Safety

Objective: Demonstrate safe work practices.

Typical Activities:

  • Follow safety rules and operate equipment safely.
  • Report safety issues.

Additional: Perform other duties as assigned.

Training:
  • On-the-job training provided.
  • Blueprint reading course completion required.
Entry Qualifications:
  • Experience in wax assembly and gating system development/modification.
  • Knowledge of assembly techniques, tools, materials, and molten metal.
  • Ability to follow complex instructions and perform calculations.
  • Artistic skills, spatial awareness, manual dexterity demonstrated through experience or hobbies.
  • Effective communication, independence, organization.
  • Ability to lift/maneuver objects up to 50 pounds.
  • Ability to work in noisy, fumes, crowded, awkward, or chemical-exposure conditions.
