WEAVE INC is seeking a PREA Advocate in Sacramento to deliver trauma-informed advocacy, crisis intervention, and accompaniment for survivors of sexual assault within detention facilities.

The role includes education, case documentation, and collaboration with facility staff to ensure confidential, victim-centered services. A strong background in crisis response and group facilitation is essential.

Competenze

  • Associate degree in social work, behavioral health, human services, or related field, or equivalent education/training/experience.
  • Ability to understand systems affecting incarcerated youth and adults, including juvenile justice, detention, corrections, and reentry.
  • Ability to establish rapport with diverse populations, including criminal justice-involved individuals.

Job Description

The PREA Advocate provides trauma-informed advocacy, crisis intervention, forensic exam accompaniment, education, and support services to incarcerated individuals who experience sexual assault within Sacramento County detention and reentry facilities. This position serves youth at the Sacramento County Youth Detention Facility (YDF) and adult survivors participating in the Saint John's Program Female Community Reentry Program (SJFCRP).

The Advocate delivers individual and group support services, coordinates referrals and PREA reporting, provides accompaniment to forensic medical exams, and collaborates with facility staff to ensure survivors have access to confidential, victim-centered services. The position operates within correctional environments and requires the ability to build collaborative relationships with detention staff while maintaining victim autonomy, confidentiality, and a trauma-informed approach.

Advocacy Services

  • Provide crisis intervention and emotional support to incarcerated individuals who experience sexual abuse within detention and correctional settings in Sacramento County.
  • Conduct individual advocacy sessions utilizing a trauma-informed, victim-centered approach.
  • Facilitate peer support groups and educational activities addressing sexual violence, healing, coping skills, and available resources.
  • Respond to requests for services from victims, facility personnel, and partner agencies.
  • Provide follow-up support as requested by survivors.
  • Advocate on behalf of survivors regarding issues related to sexual assault within the facility, consistent with facility policies and victim authorization.
  • Support victims in navigating institutional systems and understanding available options.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary partners to address barriers impacting survivor safety and well-being.

Accompaniment Services

  • Provide accompaniment and support during forensic medical examinations, interviews, hearings, court proceedings, and other appointments related to sexual assault within a facility.
  • Coordinate accompaniment services in accordance with detention facility and community reentry program protocols.
  • Maintain knowledge of forensic examination procedures and correctional protocols relevant to incarcerated survivors.

Outreach, Education, and Training

  • Develop and maintain positive working relationships with detention facility and reentry program personnel.
  • Provide education regarding sexual assault services available to incarcerated survivors.
  • Distribute informational and outreach materials throughout the facility.
  • Conduct presentations, support groups, educational workshops, and awareness-building activities.

Case Documentation and Program Administration

  • Maintain accurate, timely, and confidential client and program records using WEAVE’s confidential services database.
  • Document services provided in accordance with agency, grant, and regulatory requirements.
  • Assist with grant reporting requirements and program evaluation activities.
  • Participate in agency meetings, training, and professional development opportunities.

Collaboration and Partnership Responsibilities

  • Serve as a liaison between WEAVE, Sacramento County Youth Detention Facility, Saint John's Program Female Community Reentry Program, and other facilities in Sacramento County.
  • Foster positive partnerships that increase survivor access to services within detention settings.
  • Maintain professional boundaries and comply with all facility policies and procedures.

Qualifications
  • Associate degree in social work, behavioral health, human services, or a related field, or equivalent relevant education, training, and/or experience. .
  • Understanding of, or ability to learn, systems affecting incarcerated youth and adults, including juvenile justice, detention, corrections, and reentry systems.
  • Ability to establish rapport with diverse populations, including criminal justice-involved individuals.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and professional boundaries.
  • Strong crisis intervention and de-escalation skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to facilitate educational presentations and support groups.

  • Complete WEAVE’s 69-hour peer counselor training program and pass background check (post-hiring requirement).
  • A nnual completion of WEAVE’s continuing education requirements to maintain Peer Counselor Certification.
  • Ability to travel reliably between assigned work locations throughout Sacramento County. A valid driver's license and proof of insurance are required when driving on WEAVE business .

Work environment is primarily a busy office setting in a two-story building with stairs and an elevator, or in various community settings to deliver training/presentations. Local travel (driving) will be required to conduct meetings and other activities at various area locations. Employees may need to move around and between floors, occasionally lift or move items weighing up to 25 lbs., or reach items above their head, below their waist, or stored in/on drawers and shelves. Employees may also need to remain in one position (i.e. sitting or standing) for an extended period while completing work tasks. Must be able to efficiently operate a keyboard and mouse or adaptive equivalent, write reports, take notes; utilize desk tools such as phones or calculators, and utilize larger office equipment such as printers and copy machines; communicate clearly and concisely with others; and apply above average reasoning and attention to detail as required in the accomplishment of job duties.
