Qualifications

  • First Aid, CPR, and AED certifications completed within six months of hire.

Job description

LARPD is seeking a Pre School Coordinator. This is a part-time benefited position with a variable schedule.

Monday- Friday. Must be able to work 30 hours per week.

SUMMARY

Under immediate direction, plans and implements the operations and coordination of preschool programs and curriculum in accordance with the LARPD youth development philosophy. May be called on to support other youth services programming including ESS. This position is in the program up to 70% of the time. The Pre School Coordinator supervises and monitors children to ensure their safety and well-being; and performs related work as required. This role must be able to work a minimum of 30 hours per week.

SUPERVISION RECEIVED AND EXERCISED

Receives general directions from the Youth Services Manager, Child Development Supervisor, and exercises direction over lower-level preschool staff.

DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS

This is an experienced level youth services role focusing on preschool and possibly school-age youth. Incumbents perform responsible duties requiring specialized knowledge of early childhood development, foundations of early learning, and routine and complex administrative support. Incumbents are responsible for establishing objectives, timelines, and methods to deliver services.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Plan, implement, lead, and direct curriculum to ensure a positive and safe learning environment for preschool participants in line with the philosophy of LARPD.
  • Oversee the day-to-day operations of the Preschool programs including facility management, program scheduling, staffing patterns, curriculum guidelines, and health and safety.
  • Provide direct supervision for site staff in accordance with District Rules and Regulations to include training, program and site assignments, performance evaluation, and conflict resolution.
  • Assist the Child Development Supervisor with administrative personnel on matters such as hiring and discipline.
  • Maintain a positive and professional relationship with parents, volunteers, preschool teachers, and colleagues.
  • Work closely with the Child Development Supervisor and Youth Services Manager on curriculum development and program goals for the Youth Services Division.
  • Serve as the principal contact for parents and staff on all matters relating to the preschool programs.
  • Effectively coordinate participant recruitment, enrollment, and registration procedures to meet division goals.
  • Monitor program and facility supplies and purchase necessary items as needed.
  • Perform administrative duties such as enrollment, scheduling staff meetings, preparing reports, monitoring expenditures, scheduling teacher substitutes, and collecting tuition.
  • Maintain and update all necessary program participant files according to District requirements.
  • Facilitate communication and collaboration with all preschool teachers, families, and other community members.
  • Confer with the Youth Services Manager on the status of program goals and objectives, operational matters, and problem areas.
  • Work in the classroom up to 70% of the time to provide support to the teachers and parents.
  • Ensure a clean, safe, and orderly program environment by monitoring the conditions of the facility and arranging for the repair or replacement of equipment and the cleaning of program sites.
  • Conduct monthly staff meetings, attend District meetings and other workshops and training as necessary.
  • Support other Youth Services Programs as able and assigned, including ESS.

QUALIFICATIONS
Education and Experience:

Associate’s degree in Early Childhood Education or 24 units in Early Childhood Education

AND

Two years of lead and /or supervisory experience working in a childcare program with the Early Childhood Education Administrative course and Supervision course completed.

  • Maintain facilities and equipment in a clean, safe, and secure manner.

LICENCES AND CERTIFICATIONS

Completion of Accredited First Aid, CPR, and AED training within six months of hire and maintained throughout employment, completion of required mandated reporter training within 90 days of employment.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

Must possess mobility to perform moderate physical work; vision to read printed materials and a computer screen; hearing and speech to communicate in person and over the telephone or radio. The classification supports indoor and outdoor programs requiring frequent walking, running, conducting exercises, and related physical activities. Finger dexterity is needed to access, enter, and retrieve data using a computer keyboard, calculator, or tools and equipment used in assigned program area. Program activities may require sitting, standing, walking on level and slippery surfaces, reaching, twisting, turning, kneeling, bending, stooping, squatting, crouching, grasping, and making repetitive hand movement in the performance of daily duties; the ability to lift, carry, and push tools, equipment, and supplies weighing up to 40 pounds or heavier weights with assistance and/or the use of proper equipment.

ENVIRONMENTAL ELEMENTS

Incumbents work in both indoor and outdoor environments with moderate to loud noise levels. May work in controlled temperature conditions, cold and hot temperatures, or inclement weather conditions. May be exposed to communicable illnesses, blood, and body fluids. Incumbents will interact with individuals in interpreting and enforcing rules, policies, and procedures.

WORKING CONDITIONS

Incumbents may be assigned an irregular work schedule, including early mornings, evenings, and holidays.

Medical exam, legally mandated immunizations, and tuberculosis test.
