Job summary

Conservation Maven seeks a forester to lead timber management efforts on Quinault Reservation lands in Washington. You will conduct reconnaissance on mature stands, delineate harvest units, and ensure compliance with Riparian and Wetland Protection Zones.

You will supervise forestry technicians or contractors, design cruises, perform stumpage appraisals, and contribute to drafting contracts and maps. Collaborative work with Tribal officials and Trust landowners is expected.

Qualifications

  • Experience in timber harvesting planning and boundary delineation.
  • Ability to supervise technicians or contractors in field settings.
  • Familiarity with forest management plans and protection zones.

Responsibilities

  • Perform reconnaissance on mature timber stands and identify potential harvest units.
  • Determine harvest boundaries per the Quinault Indian Reservation Forest Management Plan, including Riparian and Wetland Zones.
  • Supervises 1-2 forestry technicians or directs contractors in unit preparation
  • Identify operational requirements for harvesting, including yarding systems, road developments and stream crossings.
  • Design and implement timber cruises.
  • Perform stumpage appraisals.
  • Develop draft contracts, prospectuses, maps, and other timber sale documents.
  • Communicate management objectives to Trust landowners and Tribal officials, drafts official correspondence.
  • Provide input to forest management activities as a member of the QDNR Interdisciplinary Team.

Job description
