Job summary

Responsibilities

  • Understand and follow the PSA schedule for job sequencing across presses.
  • Communicate job sequence and production expectations to press crews.
  • Immediately report issues that affect the schedule.
  • Read, understand, and follow ColorMasters printing specifications.
  • Verify job requirements before production and changeover.
  • Verify materials meet job requirements and ensure enough supply.
  • Ensure material is staged to cover at least the first two hours.
  • Verify equipment and components are clean and defect-free.
  • Conduct in-person prepress meetings at least one hour before changeover.
  • Review the prepress checklist and document completion on the Press Report.
  • Communicate requirements to press crews, Ink Dept, and QC.
  • Document changeover performance and reasons if not met.
  • Forward changeover results to leadership and inform crews.
  • Perform spot checks for quality and production issues.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by management.

Job description

The Prepress Coordinator is responsible for verifying and communicating production goals, schedules, and results with management and press crews. This position ensures that all materials, equipment, and resources required for upcoming jobs are properly staged, available, and meet job specifications before production begins. The Prepress Coordinator follows and communicates the production schedule based on PSA and conducts prepress meetings with required personnel at least one hour before each job on the shift enters changeover. The primary purpose of this position is to reduce downtime and scrap while increasing production efficiency through effective planning, organization, preparation, and communication.

QUALITY / DECISION-MAKING AUTHORITY

The Prepress Coordinator has the authority and responsibility to:

  • Identify and non-conform materials, equipment, or other assets within the department that do not meet established standards for safely and efficiently producing a quality product.
  • Communicate scheduling, material, equipment, and machine issues to the Press Supervisor and management.
  • Instruct and communicate with press crews regarding production goals, expectations, and results.
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES
Production Scheduling

Understand and follow the PSA schedule for job sequencing across all printing presses.

  • Clearly communicate job sequence and production expectations to press crews.
  • Immediately communicate any issues or obstructions that may prevent the established schedule from being followed.
Printing Specifications

Read, understand, and follow ColorMasters printing specifications.

Verify job requirements before production and changeover.

Material Preparation
  • Verify that all materials listed on the printing specifications meet job requirements.
  • Confirm that sufficient materials are available at the facility to complete the job.
  • Ensure enough material is staged at the machine to support a minimum of the first two hours of production.
Equipment Preparation
  • Verify that all equipment, anilox rolls, plates, and other required components for upcoming jobs are clean, available, and free from defects.
Prepress Meetings
  • Conduct in-person prepress meetings with the Press Operator, Press Helpers, Ink Toner, and Quality Control (QC) as a group.
  • Meetings must be conducted at least one hour before the job enters changeover.
  • Review and communicate all applicable items on the prepress checklist located within the prepress section of the Press Report.
Prepress Documentation

Document completion of all prepress requirements on the Press Report.

Verify that press crews, the Ink Department, and QC understand all applicable job requirements and expectations.

Changeover Performance
  • Document on the Press Report whether the established changeover time goal was achieved.
  • When a changeover goal is not achieved, document the reason in detail.
  • Forward the documented information to the Director of Printing, Plant Manager, and Production Manager.
  • Verbally communicate changeover goal results to the press crew once the job has been approved for production.
  • Complete this process for every applicable changeover.
Quality Monitoring

Perform spot checks on running equipment and finished product for potential quality issues, including proper roll stacking, core alignment, and other production-related quality concerns.

Additional Duties

Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned by management.

PHYSICAL & WORK ENVIRONMENT REQUIREMENTS
  • Wear required hair nets and beard nets while inside designated production areas.
  • Walk throughout the production facility as necessary to perform job responsibilities.
  • Lift up to 60 pounds approximately 30% of the time.
  • Push and/or pull loads of approximately 5001,000 pounds with mechanical assistance.
  • Bend, reach, and move as necessary to perform job duties.
  • Work in both hot and cool production conditions.
  • Safely perform duties in an active manufacturing environment.
  • Communicate professionally and safely with all ColorMasters personnel.
