The Unit Assistant functions as a supporting member of the Surgical Hospital team by performing various tasks including limited patient care, environmental maintenance, assistance with material management, and other duties. The Unit Assistant reports directly to the Nurse Manager.

Responsibilities:

1. Transport patients of all ages to and from various areas within the facility, ensuring patient safety and comfort.
2. Assist with limited patient care in the pre-op and recovery units as needed, under the supervision of a Registered Nurse.
3. Assist with bay clean-up, preparation, and room turnover.
4. Utilize transport, positioning, procedural, and safety equipment properly.
5. Assist with routine care, maintenance, and troubleshooting of designated equipment and devices.
6. Help maintain the cleanliness of the peri-operative environment during daily activities.
7. Provide assistance with daily inventory control for medical and office supplies.
8. Assist with other general facility duties as required and directed by the RN, Manager, or Director.
9. Follow safety policies and procedures, recognize hazards, and initiate corrective measures.
10. Work collaboratively with staff to ensure optimal patient care and a positive work environment.
11. Communicate patient information to office and clinical staff as needed.
12. Support continuous patient flow by preparing the pre-operative area with clean stretchers and recliners.
13. Assist with removing dirty linens and disposing of trash appropriately.
14. Run errands as instructed by Supervisors.
15. Maintain patient and facility confidentiality at all times.
16. Perform job tasks efficiently and professionally.
17. Other duties as assigned.
