Job description

The Pre-Operative/Post-Operative Registered Nurse, under the supervision of the PACU Manager or the Director of Nursing, is responsible for providing peri-operative patient care in accordance with sound nursing judgment, regulatory and accreditation standards, and the facility's mission, vision, and values. The position must provide direct and indirect patient care across the age continuum and utilize the nursing process of assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation according to facility policies and procedures.

Essential Job Functions:

  • Delegates appropriately while directing and supervising ancillary personnel in planning, implementing, monitoring, and evaluating patient care in the pre-operative/post-operative clinical areas according to accepted standards.
  • Provides direct patient care in the assigned clinical areas and demonstrates clinical competence.
  • Participates in service recovery by addressing issues proactively, keeping customers informed, and providing comfort, information, and assistance during the process.
  • Reviews daily schedules and prepares patient care areas based on procedures and specific patient needs.
  • Communicates changes in patient status to physicians, family members, and staff as necessary.
  • Performs physical and psycho/social assessments and develops pre-operative care plans, including obtaining informed consent.
  • Completes and documents pre-operative interviews, reviews diagnostic results, and notifies physicians and staff of variances or concerns.
  • Completes post-anesthesia records, ensures patients meet discharge criteria, and provides post-operative instructions.

Qualifications, Knowledge, and Ability:

  • Eligible to work in the U.S.
  • Graduate of an approved nursing program with current licensure.
  • At least two years of experience in ICU, Emergency Room, Recovery Room, or critical care nursing.
  • Knowledge of healthcare regulations and standards.
  • Ability to obtain CPR, ACLS, PALS certifications within 60 days of employment.
  • Effective communication skills in English.
  • Willingness to participate in professional development activities.
  • Adherence to professional nursing standards.
