POSITION SUMMARY:

Under the direction of the Regional Swim Director, the Pre Lifeguard associate is responsible for successfully completing all required training and certifications to become a certified lifeguard. This position is also responsible for assisting with safety, cleanliness, and operation of the swimming pool during operating hours. The primary function of the Pre-Lifeguard associate will be general support to maintain safety for our members on the pool deck.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  1. Focus on quality experiences and engagement within programs, services, and activities.
  2. Must have an understanding of the age and stages of youth development, and work with children.
  3. Support communication between associates and members/parents.
  4. Inform proper leaders of operating challenges, equipment/supply needs, and/or conflicts during operating hours (either with members and/or associates).
  5. Enforce Y in Central Maryland policies, guidelines, and best practices.
  6. Encourage member engagement and outstanding member experience.
  7. Foster an environment that is positive and motivating to families, children, and peers.
  8. Effectively coordinate facility usage for assigned programs and activities.
  9. Support the center’s annual support campaign and provide leadership support to associate giving and engagement.
  10. Ability to work with a diverse population, all ages, genders, and sexual orientations.
  11. Attend and actively participate in all meetings as assigned.
  12. Incorporate the four character values of the YMCA: Caring, Honesty, Respect, and Responsibility and adhere to the YCM Code of Conduct.
  13. Communicate the Y mission and objectives to the community.
  14. Assist in all other areas as assigned.
