Job summary

Amarillo ISD is seeking a diligent prek aide to support teachers by preparing activities and maintaining a productive learning environment inside and outside the classroom. You will help manage daily routines, assist with small-group instruction, and reinforce positive behavior and safety for students.

Responsibilities

• Participates in daily and long-range lesson and classroom activity planning.
• Assists with learning exercises for small groups of children.
• Guides children to interact harmoniously with peers.
• Alerts teacher to special needs of individual children.
• Provides escort and assistance to children as necessary.
• Maintains individual records for each child.
• Supports healthy eating habits and table manners.
• Maintains neat work and study areas.
• Supervises children during lunch and outside periods.
• Collects and displays materials for educational displays.

Qualifications

Primary Purpose

To assist the pre-kindergarten teacher(s) in maintaining appropriate activities and learning environment inside and outside of the classroom in order that students may learn effectively.

Qualifications

Minimum Education/Certification:
High School Diploma
and meet the Districts formal academic assessment required by Every Student Succeeds Act
Associates (or higher) degree
OR 48 college credit hours
Valid Texas Educational Aide Certificate
Meet the rigorous standard of quality required by the district

Special Knowledge/Skills

The ability to work effectively and harmoniously with students, parents and school personnel is essential.
The abilities to willingly follow written and/or oral directions and to exercise good judgment are required.

Work Conditions

Tools/Equipment Used: Classroom materials
Posture: Prolonged sitting; occasional bending/stooping, pushing/pulling, and twisting
Motion: Repetitive hand motions, reaching
Lifting: Occasional light lifting and carrying (less than 50 pounds)

Minimum Experience

Experience working with students and parents is preferred. This experience may be work in church-related
school day camps, youth groups, private schools, licensed day-care or similar experiences
