The position offers part-time hours (Mon-Thu 10:00–2:00, Fri 1:00–5:00) with Aftercare support on Fridays, and a climate that values equity, progress, and collaboration.

Responsibilities

  • Assist teachers with instruction coverage, assessments, grading, and classroom responsibilities.

  • Fridays: support Aftercare activities with enrichment staff.

Job Description

Directly report to the Pre-K Director

Assist teachers with instruction coverage (including Enrichment classrooms), assessments, grading, and other classroom responsibilities;

Potentially teach small groups of students;

Observe Master Teachers in order to improve instructional techniques and classroom management;

Provide administrative support including but not limited to copies, hallway duty, bathroom duty, organizing classroom materials, etc.

Fridays: Support with Aftercare by engaging students in fun activities. These activities will be provided by the Enrichment teacher/Pre-K Director

As appropriate, perform all duties expected of staff, including but not limited to:

Participating in grade-level activities, and school-wide functions, events, and trips;

Providing consistent rewards and/or consequences for student behavior;

Supervising students during transitions, breakfast, lunch and afterschool;

Communicating effectively with students, families, and colleagues;

Qualifications

A strong candidate will possess strong organizational skills, communication skills (particularly with children), and problem solving skills;

Interest in performing a critical support role and the ability to excel in a fast-paced, entrepreneurial, results-oriented environment;

Prior experience working in schools and/or urban communities is preferred but not required;

Relentless commitment to the mission of educating urban students. Belief in and alignment with Uncommon’s core beliefs and educational philosophy is non-negotiable;

Bachelor’s degree is preferred, but not required. A background in education is not required, though candidates should show a demonstrated passion for working with K-12 students.

Monday - Thursday: 10:00 AM - 2:00 PM

Friday: 1:00 PM - 5:00 PM

Compensation

Compensation for this role is $20 per hour.
