Description

Under the direction of the Education Specialist, the Teacher Assistant Agency Floater supports the daily operation of the Pre-K/First 8 Memphis program by assisting teachers and supervising students within the classroom and other assigned areas. Responsibilities include planning and implementing learning experiences that promote the intellectual, physical, social, and emotional development of Pre-K students using various teaching strategies. The role also involves relieving staff during break periods and serving as a classroom substitute as needed.

Requirements
  • High School diploma or equivalent required.
  • Two years of successful work in Early Childhood Education preferred.
  • Child Development Associate (CDA) Preschool preferred.
  • Associate's degree or higher in Early Childhood Education or a related field preferred.
  • CPR and First Aid certification preferred.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities
  • Adheres to standards set by Porter-Leath, Department of Human Services, Tennessee Department of Education, CACFP, USDA, and other governing agencies.
  • Provides classroom coverage and assumes responsibilities as the primary caregiver for children, including those with special needs, when assigned.
  • Communicates effectively with supervisors and staff to ensure a positive, safe, and enriching environment for children, families, and staff.
  • Assists in delivering health, nutrition, disability, education, and family support services according to policies and service plans.
  • Supports the implementation of daily educational procedures, ensuring activities meet children's immediate needs and provide varied options.
  • Coordinates with nutrition, health, disability, and education staff to meet special diet and care needs.
  • Maintains accurate records of attendance, meal counts, and other reports.
  • Respects confidentiality of student and personnel records.
  • Conducts home visits and parent conferences.
  • Participates in ongoing child assessments.
  • Performs other duties as assigned to ensure effective program functioning.
  • Demonstrates flexibility in job functions.
  • Arrives promptly and maintains consistent presence to ensure continuity of services.
  • Contributes to team efforts by performing additional duties as needed.
Additional Information

There are no supervisory responsibilities. The physical demands include standing, sitting, talking, hearing, using hands, and occasionally lifting up to 25 pounds. A valid driver's license with a good driving record is required.
