Summary of Position

St. Michael’s prep seeks a dynamic, experienced, collaborative, and creative physical education teacher for the 2025-2026 school year who will be responsible for helping to develop and implement a comprehensive physical education curriculum that promotes students' physical fitness, motor skills, teamwork, and sportsmanship through engaging and developmentally appropriate lessons that foster a positive and active learning environment.

The teachers at St. Michael’s Prep possess a love for children in all their developmental stages, the ability to work well on a team, excellent oral and written communication skills with both colleagues and the community, and be motivated life-long learners. St. Michael’s Prep believes in teaching to the whole child, focusing on social and emotional development alongside their physical literacy skills. We know that children learn best and will take the necessary risks in the learning process when they feel confident, comfortable and secure in their learning environment; therefore, we look to employ educators who value building relationships and teaching social and emotional skills in addition to providing excellent instruction. This is a full-time, 10-month position that begins in August 2025.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Curricular and Teaching

  • Applies innovative and engaging teaching practices that go beyond the traditional approach to physical education
  • Designs and implements age-appropriate lessons in partnership with PE co-teacher that cover a range of motor skills, games, and fitness activities for students in Pre-K through Grade 8
  • Understands and applies the latest theories, best practices and pedagogical approaches to physical education and child development
  • Models and encourages teamwork, sportsmanship, and respect for others
  • Shows dedication to the social, emotional and character development of each child; strength in implementing a Responsive Classroom approach is preferred
  • Applies a flexible and intentional approach to lesson planning to accommodate individual student learning needs
  • Sets learning goals that are integrated within a child-centered physical education curriculum
  • Provides positive and productive feedback to build confidence and support growth and progress
  • Promotes a love for physical activity and a healthy lifestyle

Communication and Collaboration

  • Works well in a teaching team; displays a positive attitude and eagerness to work collaboratively with colleagues
  • Writes quarterly report cards for students to document and communicate progress
  • Shows a desire to respond to and initiate the solving of problems through clear and open conversation
  • Accepts feedback openly and is comfortable taking risks
  • Displays interest in pursuing professional development opportunities and is dedicated to professional growth

  • A positive attitude and the willingness to approach learning new skills in flexible and creative ways
  • At least three years as a PE teacher
  • Bachelor’s degree required
