Role Overview

As the Global Engineering Services (GESS) Preconstruction Manager, you will oversee project management of industrial building developments, including new builds, retrofits, expansions, and program initiatives from site selection through contract execution. You will collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to define scope, budget, and schedule, ensuring timely permit acquisition. You will lead planning, design, and pre-construction projects like built-to-suit facilities, tenant improvements, and renovations.

Key Responsibilities
  • Manage complex, cross-functional industrial projects from site selection to design completion, permitting, and contract signing, working independently within your regional area.
  • Coordinate with teams across real estate, design engineering, entitlements, construction, finance, and more to secure resources and drive project milestones.
  • Lead results through communication, risk assessment, decision-making, and stakeholder influence, representing project and technical info effectively.
  • Oversee vendor procurement, evaluate scope, negotiate costs, and manage professional service providers.
  • Conduct cost estimating, schedule tracking, and forecasting, resolving issues to ensure smooth project handovers.
  • Supervise safety program implementation across project teams.
  • Focus on site selection, scope development, and design coordination to meet operational and design standards.
  • Develop and manage project schedules, including design and permitting phases, optimizing strategies for entitlements and procurement.
  • Prepare and present project status and risk reports to leadership.
  • Operate independently within your region, resolving issues proactively.
  • Ensure regulatory compliance through coordination with authorities having jurisdiction.
  • Adapt to change and innovate, providing scalable solutions for a dynamic business environment.
  • Review contracts, technical documents, and site-specific reports.
  • Travel up to 60% within the assigned regions; be willing to relocate near the office if necessary.
A Day in the Life

You will ensure timely, budget-compliant project execution, improve processes, and manage construction coordination. Your daily tasks include managing design documents, project status updates, stakeholder communication, contract negotiations, site management, and environmental considerations. You will lead multidisciplinary teams, resolve issues, and influence project decisions, representing Amazon’s interests in meetings and negotiations.

Qualifications

Basic: 4+ years in project management, real estate development, architecture, or design; Bachelor's degree or equivalent.

Preferred: Advanced degree or certification in related fields; multi-disciplinary construction experience; knowledge of BIM; experience managing industrial automation projects; excellent communication skills.
