Overview
The Registration Specialist is responsible for verifying patient demographics, educating patients on their financial responsibility, and collecting patient responsibility. All new hires must submit to and pass a pre-employment drug screen and background check.
At this time, US Anesthesia Partners does not hire candidates residing in New York, California, Hawaii, or Alaska.

Responsibilities
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES (include but not limited to):
- Registers patients in the practice management system with accurate, complete demographics.
- Verifies eligibility status for patients with upcoming procedures.
- Creates an estimate of expected anesthesia costs based on the procedure, duration, and insurance.
- Counsels patients regarding their financial responsibility and insurance benefits.
- Collects patient responsibility, records, and then safeguards appropriately.
- Answers incoming patient, insurance company, physician office, and facility telephone calls.
- Resolves questions directly whenever possible to ensure prompt patient satisfaction.
- Responds promptly to inquiries or notifies patients of delays in resolution.
- Researches/audits patient accounts and merges duplicate accounts.
- Notes recurring questions or issues for potential policy or procedure improvements.
- Attends in-service training to improve skills and stay updated on changes.
- Creates reports as assigned.
- Documents all actions in the system notes.
- Demonstrates a positive attitude and serves others with personal service 100% of the time.
- Uses the phone responsibly, courteously, and professionally; minimizes personal calls.
- Meets customer satisfaction standards set by management.
- Meets productivity and performance standards.
- Adheres to all company policies and procedures.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
REPORTING TO THIS POSITION: No direct reports
Qualifications
JOB REQUIREMENTS (Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities):
- Bilingual Spanish preferred.
- Excellent verbal and written English skills.
- Basic math skills for calculations related to anesthesia units and reimbursement.
- Basic knowledge of medical terminology and insurance processing, guidelines, and laws.
- Knowledge of managed care, Medicare, and Medicaid guidelines.
- Data entry skills.
- Knowledge of CPT, ICD-10, and ASA codes.
- Problem-solving and decision-making skills.
- Strong analytical skills.
- Positive teamwork attitude and interpersonal skills.
- High tolerance and pleasant disposition.
- Ability to work independently and effectively.
- Proficiency in MS Word, MS Excel, and Compass 21.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality.
- Willingness to follow directions and company policies.
EDUCATION/TRAINING/EXPERIENCE:
- Minimum 1 year of customer service or billing collections experience.
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Associate degree in health or business administration preferred.
- Equivalent education and experience considered; healthcare experience preferred.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Sitting, bending, stooping, and stretching.
- Manual dexterity for operating office equipment.
- Sufficient hearing and eyesight for communication and reporting.
- Occasional lifting up to 35 pounds.
- Typing at least 50 wpm.

- Office environment.
- Frequent contact with staff and organizations.
