Salary Range: $90,000.00 To $120,000.00 Annually

TITLE

Pre-Clinical Coordinator

DATE

November 2026

WORK LOCATION

Synchron is pioneering minimally invasive brain-computer interfaces (BCI) to restore communication, mobility, and independence for people with paralysis. Its Stentrode platform is the first endovascular BCI designed to translate thought into digital action without open-brain surgery. Having proven that a minimally invasive BCI works, Synchron is now building a frontier next-generation platform. Brain-computer interfaces are one of the defining frontiers of deep tech, where neuroscience, semiconductor design, and AI converge on engineering problems no one has solved before.

San Diego is Synchron's engineering and manufacturing hub, where our next-generation platform is designed, built, and qualified. Electrical and mechanical engineers, ASIC designers, materials scientists, microfabrication and manufacturing teams, and preclinical and test teams work side by side, from the lab bench to the cleanroom, on ultra-low-power neural recording, wireless implant telemetry, and precision medical device assembly. That close, hands‑on collaboration is why this role is in the office five days a week.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Coordinate the day-to-day execution of Synchron's preclinical studies (GLP and non-GLP) across contract research organizations and internal laboratory settings, including in vivo, ex vivo and bench studies supporting the next-generation platform.
  • Act as the primary operational contact for study directors, CRO staff, surgeons, pathology partners and specialist contractors; own study calendars, procedure scheduling, logistics and timelines, and keep internal stakeholders informed of status and risks.
  • Prepare, track and archive study documentation, including protocols and amendments, test article and equipment records, shipping and chain-of-custody records, study data, sample tracking and interim and final reports, in collaboration with the sponsor representative, Regulatory and Quality.
  • Coordinate test article and equipment logistics for each study: device requests from manufacturing, inspection and labelling, shipping, calibration and preventive maintenance of laboratory and imaging equipment, and consumables inventory.
  • Coordinate the flow of explanted devices and tissue samples to histopathology, materials analysis and other external partners, and track results through to study reports.
  • Support ethics and animal welfare submissions (IACUC) and maintain GLP compliance records (21 CFR Part 58) together with Quality Assurance.
  • Set up, operate and maintain internal laboratory space: equipment, consumables, cleaning and waste streams, service contracts, room access and scheduling, and the associated safety documentation and SOPs.
  • Coordinate the procurement, receipt, tracking, storage and disposition of biological materials in line with supplier agreements and applicable regulations, maintaining full traceability records.
  • Maintain the laboratory safety program: biosafety and bloodborne pathogen controls, biohazardous and medical waste handling, radiation safety for imaging equipment, EHS compliance and training records.
  • Maintain internal procedure sessions and physician and engineer training sessions: scheduling, room and equipment setup, participant logistics and documentation.
  • Provide hands‑on support during procedures: room and equipment setup, sterile field support, operation of imaging and recording equipment, and real‑time documentation.
  • Coordinator of vendors and study budgets: quotes, purchase orders, invoices and contracts for CROs, suppliers, equipment rental and specialist contractors.
  • Support audits and inspections, and contribute to continuous improvement of preclinical processes, templates and SOPs.

The requirements listed in the following are representative of the knowledge, skills, and/or ability required.
