Position Summary

The position performs varied professional services to ensure medical/surgical and diagnostic/ancillary services are accomplished efficiently and that reimbursement is maximized through interaction with third-party payers.

Job Description
Primary Duties & Responsibilities:
  • Initiates and facilitates pre-determination process.
  • Contacts insurance companies for benefit verification and pre-certification; notifies financial counselor for pre-payment of un-coded services.
  • Provides documentation required during pre-certification to insurance companies.
  • Maintains daily surgery/procedure schedule; communicates with physicians and assistants regarding schedules.
  • Logs all pre-certifications and notifies hospital utilization/billing department.
  • Documents receipt of pre-certification from insurance companies.
Working Conditions:

Job Location/Working Conditions: Normal environment, patient care setting.

Physical Effort: Sitting at desk, repetitive wrist, hand, or finger movements.

Equipment: Office equipment.

Minimum Qualifications:

Education: High school diploma or equivalent.

Certifications: None required.

Work Experience: 3 years in a medical office setting.

Skills: Not applicable.

Driver's License: Not required.

Preferred Qualifications:

Education: Associate degree.

Certifications: CPC or RHIT preferred.

Work Experience: No additional beyond required qualifications.

Skills: Communication, insurance, coding, organizing, and customer service skills.

Additional Information:
