Job summary

Southeast Health in Alabama seeks an experienced supervisor to coordinate specimen processing and phlebotomy services in a hospital setting.

The role hires, trains, schedules, and evaluates staff; develops policies for processing activities and ensures compliance with CAP, JCAHO, and federal/state guidelines. Strong leadership, communication, and regulatory knowledge are essential for delivering accurate reports and high-quality care.

Qualifications

• BS or BA in medical technology or biological sciences; ASCP preferred.
• Associate’s degree, preferably in medical technology and/or MLT (ASCP).
• 10 years of phlebotomy experience in a hospital setting, with ≥5 years in a team leader/supervisory role.
• Minimum two years operational supervisory experience in a hospital clinical laboratory setting.
• Minimum two years computer experience.
• MT, MLT or Phlebotomy Certification.
• Knowledge of medical terminology and testing requirements.
• Ability to communicate clearly and effectively with staff and customers.
• Excellent interpersonal and organizational skills.
• Ability to manage multiple priorities effectively.
• Knowledge of regulatory requirements for CAP, Medicare (medical necessity), state, and other accreditation agencies.

Responsibilities

• Coordinate and supervise processing of specimens (in-patient and out-patient) and phlebotomy activities.
• Hire, train, schedule, and evaluate specimen processing and phlebotomy staff.
• Prepare, update and maintain written policies and procedures for all specimen processing activities.
• Ensure compliance with accrediting and regulatory agencies (CAP, JCAHO, state and federal).
• Oversee test charges, patient billing and reporting of results; coordinate with patient accounting, medical records and information services.
• Collaborate with other section supervisors to ensure high quality and customer service.
