Job summary

WGA is seeking a Practice Manager to support the Practice Leader in delivering multi-disciplinary projects in Houston. You will coordinate staffing, mentor staff, and ensure client satisfaction while guiding portfolio growth and profitability.

The role emphasizes ownership of project delivery, performance tracking, and building lasting client relationships through proactive proposals and marketing efforts.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Science, Business, or related field.
  • 8+ years of industry experience, including 4+ years in project management or team management/coordination.
  • Professional certifications (P.E., PMP, etc.) preferred or actively in progress.
  • Demonstrated success in delivering profitable projects and mentoring staff.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate staffing, workload balancing, and production scheduling within the practice.
  • Facilitate team meetings, communicate priorities, and ensure deadlines are met.
  • Support Practice Leadership in tracking performance metrics such as utilization, backlog health, and project profitability.
  • Assist in onboarding and mentoring early-career staff and provide input on performance reviews.
  • Ensure deliverables meet WGA quality standards, schedule expectations, and budget targets.
  • Act as day-to-day point of contact for select clients or project portfolios.
  • Support proposal development, scope planning, and fee estimation.
  • Assist Practice Leadership in identifying opportunities for expanded services and client retention.
  • Drive team engagement, collaboration, and accountability; build strong client relationships as trusted advisor.
  • Develop effective marketing skills to maintain client relations and attract new clients and services.
  • Participates in conferences to promote practice growth, foster relationships, and enhance the firm’s visibility.

Job description

The Practice Manager supports the Practice Leader and Senior Practice Leader in managing a defined discipline, with responsibility for project delivery, team coordination, and overall performance. The position provides technical guidance and mentorship to early and mid-career staff while helping ensure high-quality outcomes and client satisfaction. Additionally, the role contributes to business development efforts, builds and maintains client relationships, and demonstrates readiness for future practice leadership through increasing ownership of projects and portfolio growth.
