Job description

Summary

The Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) is responsible for delivering care to Veterans in the primary care setting at the Naples Community Based Outpatient Clinic. The LPN provides direct and indirect nursing care to patients and families within the clinic, functioning as a team member under the guidance of a Registered Nurse. The LPN is accountable for adhering to established policies, protocols, standards of care, and standards of practice.

Qualifications

Applicants pending the completion of educational or certification/licensure requirements may be tentatively selected but may not be hired until all requirements are met.

Basic Requirements:

  • United States Citizenship: Non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy.
  • English Language Proficiency: In accordance with 38 U.S.C. 7402(d), no person shall serve in direct patient care positions unless proficient in basic written and spoken English.
  • Education: Graduate of a school of practical or vocational nursing approved by the appropriate State agency and/or accredited by the NLNAC at the time of completion. Exceptions include military healthcare education accepted by licensing bodies or individuals licensed without graduation from an approved school with at least one year of practice.
  • Licensure: Active, full, current, and unrestricted licensure as a Graduate Licensed Practical or Vocational Nurse in a State, Territory, or the District of Columbia.

Grade Determinations:

  • GS-03: Perform all duties within scope of license; work may require routine or detailed review depending on complexity.
  • GS-04: Six months of qualifying experience or graduation from an approved school plus experience involving nursing care work.
  • GS-05: One year of experience at GS-4 or equivalent, capable of providing a full range of practical nursing care, preparing and administering medications, recognizing emergency situations, and collaborating with the team.
  • GS-06: One additional year of experience at GS-5, proficient in providing care to diverse patient populations, recognizing urgent situations, and supporting complex procedures.

Preferred Experience: One year of medical-surgical or primary care experience.

Physical Requirements: Prolonged standing, bending, reaching, lifting moderately heavy items, and travel between VA facilities may be required. Valid driver's license is necessary.

Duties
  • Provide holistic care through team collaboration.
  • Follow program regulations and meet nursing program objectives.
  • Deliver direct nursing care, including bathing, treatments, and preparing patients for procedures.
  • Participate in interdisciplinary team meetings and document care and patient responses.
  • Administer prescribed medications and monitor patient conditions.
  • Support diagnostic procedures and respond to urgent care needs.
  • Float to various clinic areas as needed and collaborate with the PACT team to ensure comprehensive care.
