Job summary

California PPE in Fresno, CA is seeking a Team Lead - Sewer to oversee day-to-day sewing/repair operations for firefighter PPE. You will lead the sewing area, ensure on-time completion of repairs, and coordinate with other shop functions while maintaining high safety and quality standards.

The role requires hands-on sewing expertise, ability to train staff, and strong organizational skills. Typical hours are Monday through Friday in a full-time shop environment with potential overtime.

Qualifications

• Experience operating industrial sewing equipment in a manufacturing, textile, repair, or similar setting.
• Ability to read and follow work orders, repair instructions, patterns, and safety requirements.
• Strong organization, reliability, and multitasking ability.
• Clear communication and ability to coach others.

Responsibilities

• Operate industrial and domestic sewing machines and perform sewing/repair work on PPE.
• Own the sewing area workflow, prioritize repairs, and manage work in process.
• Review work orders and attach workmanship to documented scope and spec.
• Coordinate sewing tasks among team members based on workload and skill level.
• Perform in-process quality checks on seams, stitching, and hardware.
• Identify and coordinate correction or rework as needed before final inspection.
• Coach sewing staff on procedures, safety, and efficient practices.
• Assist onboarding and cross-training; escalate issues to Operations Manager.
