Job summary

Sioux Falls Fire Rescue is seeking a dedicated PPE Technician to manage cleaning, inspection, and repair of firefighting PPE in line with NFPA standards. This role supports over 200 personnel and ensures equipment readiness across the department.

The position requires a high school diploma or GED with 2+ years in repair or inventory work, proficiency in Microsoft Office, and the ability to work independently. A valid driver’s license and PPE certification within six months are required.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED plus 2 years’ experience in specialized repair, maintenance, inventory/material distribution, and cleaning work.
• Experience with Microsoft Office software and inventory management tools.
• Able to follow instructions and work with limited supervision.

Responsibilities

• Inspect, clean, and repair PPE worn by firefighters according to NFPA standards.
• Maintain PPE inventory and monitor service providers to ensure compliance.
• Review manufacturer manuals to determine PPE maintenance requirements and guidelines.
• Assist in estimating supply and program costs for budget purposes and coordinate with PPE selection committee.
• Utilize proprietary software to record and track PPE cleaning and maintenance activities.
• Maintain regular communication about PPE maintenance and demonstrate routine cleaning procedures to staff.
• Operate City vehicles and related equipment as required.
• Perform other duties as necessary to support PPE program.
