Job summary

Technology Resource Group, LLC is hiring a Powertrain Design Release Engineer in Auburn Hills, MI. This contract role focuses on managing the launch of re-manufactured driveline service parts, ensuring documentation, and cross-functional release processes across engineering, purchasing, and inventory control.

The ideal candidate has driveline design/release experience, familiarity with PPAP/APQP metrics, and the ability to coordinate multiple projects over 6–9 months in a dynamic team

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering.
  • Experience in driveline design and release engineering.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects over 6–9 months.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office; able to interpret engineering drawings; GD&T knowledge is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Understand engineering aspects of past-model parts and implement changes without affecting design intent.
  • Create engineering change notices to document and approve service part releases and changes.
  • Track and manage released service parts through purchasing and inventory control.
  • Manage supplier part deviation requests and supplier resourcing activities.
  • Recommend and implement technical cost save initiatives.
  • Recommend and implement part warranty cost reduction initiatives.
  • Identify validation requirements for service parts changes and approve test results.
  • Create design work requests to release models and drawings for service parts.
  • Approve supplier PPAP submissions such as DVPR & DFMEA.
  • Interface with material engineering to approve service parts material deviation requests.
  • Modify parts service procedures to optimize labor time and reduce warranty cost.
  • Create long-term storage solutions for all-time buy parts.

Manage the launch of re-manufactured driveline assembly (transmission, transfer case, PTU, drive shafts, half shafts) service parts. This position identifies, tracks, and approves testing and validation of re-manufactured service parts. The engineer ensures parts have applicable engineering documents created and corporate-released for compliance, traceability, and ease of future corporate reference. The engineer tracks part releases through the multiple departments, to ensure parts are placed on shelf in a timely fashion and without hindrances. The ideal candidate understands the product releasing process, including Engineering Change Notice, PPAP/APQP metrics, and Engineering Drawing interpretation. This position requires a team player with excellent interpersonal skills able to work in a dynamic cross-functional team.

RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Understand engineering aspects of past-model parts, such as design, specifications, and materials, to implement changes without affecting original design intent.
  • Create engineering change notices to document and approve service part releases and changes. Then track and manage released service parts through downstream departments, such as purchasing and inventory control, to ensure timely launch
  • Manage engineering aspects of supplier submitted part deviation requests.
  • Manage engineering aspects of supplier resourcing activities.
  • Recommend and implement technical cost save initiatives.
  • Recommend and implement part warranty cost reduction initiatives.
  • Identify Validation requirements for service parts changes, track testing progress, and approve test results.
  • Create design work requests to release models and drawings for service parts.
  • Approve Engineering documents from suppliers’ PPAP submissions, such as DVPR & DFMEA.
  • Interface with material engineering to approve service parts material deviation requests.
  • Modify parts service procedures to optimize labor time, reducing warranty cost.
  • Create long term storage solutions for all-time buy parts.
REQUIREMENTS
  • Bachelors Degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering or significant engineering experience
  • Driveline design and release engineering, process engineering or functional test engineering experience is preferred
  • Experience driving several simultaneous projects taking 6 – 9 months thru many implementation requirements.
  • Microsoft Office proficiency
  • Ability to interpret engineering drawings
  • GD&T Knowledge preferred
  • Knowledgeable in Teamcenter and an understanding of PPAP/APQP metrics a plus
  • Travel - maybe 6 times a year to supplier site within the US
