Job summary

Tata Technologies Ltd. in the United States–Ann Arbor area seeks an automotive design engineer to craft 3D models, 2D drawings, technical reports, and instruction sheets.

You will participate in Design Reviews and track design metrics to improve cost, mass, and fatigue strength based on evaluations and quotations. You will liaise with drivetrain, engine, purchasing, and plants to ensure on-time delivery of quality parts, manage NA supplier projects, and push PDE process improvements.

Qualifications

• Bachelor of Science Degree (or above) in Mechanical Engineering.
• 4+ years in automotive design/development.
• Experience with CREO, WBDM, and typical powertrain CAE design software (FEA, CFD, GT Power or similar).
• Strong knowledge of conventional, hybrid and electrified powertrains.
• Demonstrable CAD skills and a strong understanding of GD&T.
• Experience in detail design of ICE peripheral services (lubrication, belt, timing chain cover, fuel, cooling, intake/exhaust).
• Knowledge of aluminum/iron castings, thermoplastics, stampings, forgings.
• Experience with production engineering.
• Hands-on engine/powertrain assembly experience.
• Expertise in GD&T and ICE/transmission manufacturing methods.
• Professional experience with DRBFM.
• Knowledge of Quality Management and Supply Chain principles.

Responsibilities

• Produce design deliverables such as 3D models, 2D drawings, technical reports, and instruction sheets.
• Attend routine Design Reviews and report key design metrics.
• Develop countermeasures to meet design targets like cost, mass, and fatigue strength.
• Build relationships with stakeholders across drivetrain, vehicle design, engine design, purchasing, and plants.
• Project manage NA suppliers to ensure on-time delivery of quality parts per Tier I milestones.
• Drive process improvements to enhance PDE design process capability and deliverables quality.
• Benchmark designs to stay competitive on cost and customer expectations.
