Qualifications

  • Minimum 2 years of Powerline experience for Technician I.
  • Valid North Carolina Class A Commercial Driver License (CDL) required.
  • Experience in CPR and First Aid training within first 12 months.

YOUR PURPOSE

Join our team as a Powerline Technician and play a vital role in ensuring the reliability and safety of the City's electrical system. You'll perform skilled work installing, maintaining, and repairing high and low voltage power lines, equipment, and streetlighting. Responsibilities include tree and vegetation management around lines, working with both overhead and underground systems, and responding to emergency calls as part of a rotation. This hands-on role requires adherence to OSHA and City safety standards while operating specialized vehicles and equipment in a dynamic, outdoor environment.

Starting Salaries(based on experience):
Powerline Technician I – $44,736.64 – 63,613.70
Powerline Technician II – $51,789.92 - $79,543.30
Powerline Technician III – $57,100.16 - $87,697

  • Perform installation, maintenance, and repair work on low and high voltage electrical lines;
  • Perform maintenance, installation and repair of hardware, fuses, transformers, and related equipment associated with the operation of the City's electrical system;
  • Cut down, trims and removes trees, shrubs, and other growth away from power lines, rights-of-way and easements;
  • Perform installation, maintenance and removal of poles, cross arms, substation apparatus and various other equipment;
  • Perform installation and maintenance of streetlights, security lights and other equipment within the lighting system;
  • Install overhead and underground services;
  • Perform required line work on energized and de-energized circuits;
  • Perform, as needed, 24-hour standby for emergency operational assistance under adverse weather conditions;
  • Drive and operate line trucks, bucket truck, and auxiliary vehicles and equipment when needed;
  • Ensure that all work is performed in accordance with OSHA and City Safety Standards and Policies.
  • Handle trouble calls on a rotation schedule within 6 months of hire date

WHAT YOU’LL BRING

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • High School or GED equivalent.
  • Experience - must have general knowledge of electric line construction, maintenance and repair and the hazards encountered.
  • Power Line Tech I – Minimum of 2 years of Powerline Experience. (Exemption for lineworker school from an accredited school).
  • Power Line Tech II – Minimum of 2 - 5 years of Powerline Experience.
  • Powerline Tech III - Minimum of ten (10) years of Power Line experience.
  • Experience may consist of a Power Line Helper, Technician I, Technician II, or some combination of the those
  • Valid North Carolina Class A Commercial Driver License (CDL)
  • CPR and First Aid classes will be scheduled, and employee must pass and be certified within 12 months
  • Employee must pass and be certified on other approved courses as required, for example: Any Federal, State, County, City or Departmental requirements such as OSHA or Lineman Career Development Training within six (6) months of employment.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • The ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with City employees and the public.
  • CPR/First Aid Certified
