Qualifications

Job description

This is an Air Reserve Technician (ART) position. ARTs are part of the regular career civil service and enjoy all the benefits granted to Federal employees in the competitive civil service. In addition, ARTs are required to maintain their active membership in the AF Reserve unit where assigned. ARTs receive on average one weekend of military training per month.

In order to qualify, you must meet the quality level of experience requirements described in the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualification Standards Handbook X-118C for WG-5300 INDUSTRIAL EQUIPMENT MAINTENANCE FAMILY. QUALIFICATIONS: Applicants will be rated in accordance with the OPM Qualification Standard Handbook X-118C for the WG-5300 Industrial Equipment Maintenance Family. Although a specific length of time and experience is not required for most blue-collar positions, you must meet any screen-out element listed, and show through experience and training that you possess the quality level of knowledge and skill necessary to perform the duties of the position at the level for which you are applying. Qualification requirements emphasis is on the quality of experience, not necessarily the length of time. The screen out element for this position is the ability to perform the work of an POWERED SUPPORT SYSTEMS MECHANIC with little or no supervision.

JOB ELEMENTS

• 1. Knowledge of principles of electricity (AC/DC), solid state circuitry, and safety rules and regulations pertaining to aerospace ground equipment and the operation of AC/DC generator power systems. Knowledge of the theory and operation of internal combustion diesel, gasoline engines and gas turbine compressors.
• 2. Knowledge of USAF Technical Order Program and its procedures as well as regulations, procedures, and policies related to maintenance records, documentation, safety and security requirements as outlined inapplicable standards, regulations and policy statements.
• 3. Skill in reading, interpreting, and using complex wiring diagrams, schematic drawings, technical orders, technical publications, and similar guides.
• 4. Skill in using hand and power tools, instruments, test equipment, electrical meters and special tools. Skill in installing, operating, inspecting, troubleshooting, maintaining, repairing, and modifying generators, automatic transfer switches, and uninterruptible power systems; and in maintaining, overhauling, repairing, and reconditioning internal combustion engines, diesel, gasoline and gas turbine compressors. Skill in troubleshooting complex and integrated electronic, hydraulic, HVAC, pneumatic, mechanical systems and sub-systems comprising an entire integrated system
• 5. Ability to apply shop procedures, policies, written and oral instructions, and directives sufficient to provide training toothers. Ability to repair jacks, ladders, platforms, trailers, stands and other non-powered equipment. Ability to clean work area and/or job site upon completion of work.
• 6. Knowledge of tool, equipment, and materials accounting and security as well as the knowledge of equipment placement around aircraft, radio discipline and flight-line driving procedures. Knowledge of equipment and cargo shipment.

OTHER SIGNIFICANT FACTS

• 1. May be required to fly in commercial and military aircraft to perform temporary/permanent duty assignments.

• 4. May be required to work scheduled and unscheduled overtime to meet workload demands.
• 5. May be required to work off-shifts, i.e. first, second, third shifts in support of 24/7 operations. Must have a valid state driver's license .Performs other duties as assigned.
• 6. This is an Air Reserve Technician (ART) position. The incumbent is required to meet and maintain Air Force Reserve requirements. Work schedule will be aligned to allow incumbent to fully participate in unit training assemblies (UTA).The incumbent's regular assignments are ART duties; however, the incumbent may be assigned some non-ART duties, generally not to exceed 30 percent of total responsibilities.
