Job summary

Henkels & McCoy, Inc. (H&M) seeks an Estimator I to prepare timely, accurate cost estimates for electric utility projects across distribution, transmission, substations, and storm restoration.

You will support bid preparation for unit-price, lump-sum, and program-based contracts under safety and quality standards. Responsibilities include analyzing bid documents, developing labor and material estimates, and coordinating with operations, engineering, and procurement to ensure competitive pricing

Qualifications

• Experience in construction estimating for electric utility projects.
• Ability to read and interpret utility drawings, specs, and standards.
• Understanding of electric utility construction methods, materials, and industry practices.
• Experience with computerized estimating and bidding software.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook).
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Effective communication across teams and departments.
• Bachelor’s degree in CM/Engineering or equivalent experience.
• 1–3 years of estimating experience.

Responsibilities

• Prepare detailed cost estimates for electric utility projects, including overhead/underground distribution, transmission lines, substations, and related civil work.
• Analyze bid documents, drawings, specs, work orders, and standards to develop accurate pricing.
• Develop labor, equipment, material, and subcontractor estimates using historical data and unit pricing.
• Support estimating for long-term utility programs and master service agreements.
• Participate in site visits to assess field conditions and constructability for power utility work.
• Assist with change-order pricing and scope adjustments.
• Maintain bid documentation and estimating backups for reviews and audits.
• Coordinate with operations, engineering, supply chain, and project management to align estimating strategies.
• Contribute to refining estimating guidelines, databases, and cost models for electric utilities.
• Interface with utility clients and internal stakeholders for bid presentations and clarifications.
• Ensure all estimates meet safety, quality, environmental, and regulatory requirements.
