The Power Transformer Field Service Technician role is Denver-based with up to 75% travel to customer sites nationwide. You will perform inspections, load tap changer repair, regasketing, component replacement, and testing on high‑voltage

Qualifications

  • High School diploma or GED with at least 3 years in power transformer field (230kV class or higher).
  • Strong ability to read and interpret readings from test equipment for insulation and winding measurements.
  • Authorized to work in the U.S. with a valid Driver's License.
  • Ability to read electrical and mechanical drawings/diagrams and specifications.
  • Commitment to health and safety programs including Lock Out Tag Out.

Responsibilities

  • Perform inspections, load tap changer repair, dress & fill, regasketing, component replacement, and unit relocations.
  • Work on large and medium power transformers and conduct testing and reporting.
  • Learn failure investigations, report findings, and recommend repairs.
  • Onsite and in-shop work with overtime, evenings, weekends, and travel as required.

Pay Details: $36.38 - $58.00 per hour

Responsibilities & Expectations:

A Power Transformer Field Service Technician is a Denver, CO based role, with travel to customer sites around the United States. In this role you will perform complicated operations including, but not limited to: internal inspections, load tap changer repair/replacement, dress & fill, regasketing, component replacement, and unit relocations.

You will work on large and medium power transformers of varying types (substation, GSU, regulating, rectifying, and electric arc furnace). Candidates should possess a strong knowledge of operations such as inspection, testing, repair, investigation, and reporting on various types of liquid transformers.

You will learn how to perform failure investigations, report findings, and recommend repairs. Candidates will employ test equipment and instruments required to perform preliminary, intermediate, and final test. Perform related job duties as assigned.

An A-level technician will be capable of working onsite and in-shop by themselves with little to no direction. Employee may direct and train others.

Qualifications and Competencies:
Required:
  • High School diploma or GED and minimum of three years of experience in power transformer field (oil processing, regasketing, component replacement, testing, etc.) on 230kV class equipment or higher.
  • Deep understanding of power transformer construction and maintenance.
  • Candidate must know how to operate and interpret the readings from test equipment to get readings for insulation resistance, winding resistance, turns ratio, power factor (Doble M4100).
  • Candidate must already have work authorization that would permit them to work for IPS in the U.S. and a valid Driver's License.
  • Able to read and interpret drawings/diagrams and specifications - (electrical, mechanical).
  • Ability to make decisions and take action when time or customer pressures are apparent.
  • Willingly accepts job challenges
  • Have experience with health and safety programs including lock out tag out.
  • Must be good with people and be able to communicate with customer and supplier personnel
  • Self-starter able to work with minimal direction or supervision
  • This position is approximately 75% travel and will require working overtime, evening/off shifts, weekend and possibly some holidays
Preferred:
  • Experience with special transformers is preferred.
  • Specific safety, environmental, health training preferred:
    • OSHA 10 or 30
    • MSHA 30 CFR Part 48 A or Part B
    • Electrical Safety NFPA 70E or equivalent
    • Lock Out Tag Out and control of hazardous energy
    • Confined space entry and Non-entry confined space rescue
    • Spill prevention and control
